I don't think I've ever heard someone say that about Apocalypse Now before. I get that it may not be someone's taste in films - in fact, I typically avoid Hollywood-made war films because they largely glamorize and romanticize war - but I consider this one of the best films ever made, both production-wise and as a treatise on our Western political-economy.

Despite the fact that I first saw this under the grip of LSD at around age 20, it still opened my eyes to see beyond the Imperialist-centric version of history that we are indoctrinated with by institutionalized primary and secondary education. Basically, it helped reshape my ideology and worldview so that I could go on to become a more critical thinker in my adult life. Being faced with the notion that "moral superiority" might just be a facade for "war as industry" is truly a horrible and wretched thing, though that's obviously not what you meant.

There's not very many films which, upon seeing someone express disdain for them, I automatically assume that they just didn't get it... but Apocalypse Now is absolutely one of them.

No intelligent person has ever said that about Apocalypse Now before.

I received my copy a day earlier than expected from Amazon. Looking forward to viewing this and I hope to have the same experience as I did with Alien in 4k.

Good decision. The difference is night and day.

I was not expecting the 6-disc UHD and that is what was shipped. This is an insane deal for only 10 bucks!!
Currantly watching and for me, the sound effect for the helicopters, and the clarity of "The End" stuck out for me. Nice clean image as expected. Definitely worth the upgrade.

And I thought I was the only one...lol Still one of the best cinematic experiences of my life!

decided to pick this up for $9.99...I've never seen any version of this movie but since I like war movies and this gets a lot of praise (both for the movie itself and 4K transfer) I'm hoping it lives up to the hype and doesn't feel dated

It feels far less dated than most war movies of the 70s - a big part of that being that the acting is far more naturalistic than the norm from those days, so it just does a great job of evoking the era it's set in. It's definitely not a typical war movie though, in fact there's only one real battle scene in the entire thing - but it's an absolute doozy. Once that's out of the way though, it becomes a far more philosophical experience.

Considering it was made while the coals of the Vietnam War were still warm, I don’t see how it could possibly seem dated in any other way than appropriately.

Had this gem of a set arrive today a mere 5 days after I ordered it. Was suprised to see the package and each disc in perfect condition but it is a shame that the front doesnt properly close(alright for me I guess as I will present it on top of my shelf like an open book). Worth it just for hearts of darkness imo(the final cut and new bonusses are a bonus)

I saw The Final Cut last night in a huge theatre with Dolby Atmos and 4K projector..
Ride of the Valkyries gave me goosebumps. Kilgore made people laugh.
The French plantation really felt like a drag. I could have done without that.

For real though, the Atmos was amazing. Best cinema sound experience I've had so far.

I enjoyed this sequence as well.

Although I'm not a fan of the added footage with Kilgore, the scene in which the crew were in hiding as the Helicopter flew over them was awesome from an audio perspective.

Cannot wait to experience this on the big screen tonight!
I have the UHD BD of this, but I have yet to rewatch it. Then I can watch all of the special features tomorrow.

Missed the boat on the 6 disc UK release (with better packaging) so ended up getting the US version in the end. using a £7.50 eBay voucher, I got it for £15 shipped so happy with that.

Anyone still after the UK 6 disc edition might be interested in this listing from Music Magpie - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/293359974156
Currently just under £30 with a 20% off promotion, which ends tomorrow.

Shows as 40 GBP for me. Would be cheaper to get the absurdly-priced Australian version...
