I'm in the same boat! I want to buy several titles but I'm pacing myself at the moment.

Sorry to hear about your copy of Colt .45: The Complete Series. I am crossing my fingers that Cheyenne shows up in perfect condition!

I couldn't resist either, especially for such a brand new release. I love romance movies from this era. Thanks, An4h0ny!

If anything, I could see this being cheaper eventually - within the $6.99 or $7.99 range - but because it came out less than a week ago, I'm happy to pay $10 now. That's below the magic $11 Warner Archive sale price, and so quickly!

Pass. I like the Clark Gable will not buy any movie that has Mildred Natwick in the cast or Herman J. Mankiewicz as a writer/co-writer.

Even the John Ford films? Man, you are missing out.

It's kind of a confusing post. Who or what is "the Clark Gable" and how is that connected to Mildred Natwick or Manky? I googled those latter two names with "controversy" added to the Search and all that Mildred had listed was that she openly lived as a lesbian and even the site said that was not a "controversy." Mank was only listed as being part of Pauline Kael's "controversy" with her invented deductions and conclusions about CITIZEN KANE. So now I'm curious about that post too!

My general policy: Unless a celebrity has done something criminal and/or beyond the pale, I don't hold grudges against them for anything that happened before I was born. Therefore, to use two random examples of actors who are always mentioned whenever these celebrity controversies come up, I can freely enjoy Jane Fonda and John Wayne movies. Whatever Gable, Natwick, or Mank may have done, it falls in that category.

My 83 year old mother-in-law HATES "Hanoi Jane" and gives me crap for owning her movies. I told her she would have to pry my copy of BARBARELLA from my cold, dead hands!

Your mother was alive for that, so she gets a free pass based on my criteria.

I still haven't seen Barbarella. Been meaning to for years, but so many movies, so little time...

I would suspect most of us have that one person that "crosses the line" in our opinion where we simply cannot tolerate seeing them on screen or support their efforts.

I have my own small list, but no point in sharing as it will just cause needless controversy.

We will never agree to the rules in this debate and/or who meets that criteria.

Agreed, but the person who brought it up should have explained their picks. Otherwise, why mention names in the first place?

Same! And, agreed.

I'm still dying to know what Mildred did though! Maybe it was her turn as Gwendolyn Snoop alongside Helen Hayes in The Snoop Sisters. (NBC Tuesday Mystery Movie - 1973-74)
[Show spoiler]

I also have the opposite thing, where I will watch anything certain actors are in, regardless of the project. Like... Harry Dean Stanton, Bob Balaban, Lili Taylor and CCH Pounder are all on that list.

Right! It's like walking in a room and announcing you no longer eat any foods with the letter P in them... and then walking out. I need to know if it was pasta or protein powder that's the real villain here.

I rarely see anyone bring up CCH Pounder. I agree she's great!

I highly recommend the Harry Dean Stanton movie Lucky, but I'm sure you've seen it already.

Oddly enough, I watched two Lili Taylor in two movies back-to-back last year without meaning to: Eli and Pecker.

I haven't seen Lucky yet, but it is on my watch list for sure! Thank you for the reminder. I will bump it up.

I haven't seen Eli either! I will check it out. Pecker is a great movie. Super cast and I'm guessing John Waters' most accessible film, or one of them. Edward Furlong is such a great actor. I wish he was still getting roles like that.

Eli is not something I'd go out of my way to recommend, but I wouldn't not recommend it either. You'll see what I mean when you watch it.

Pecker, Serial Mom, and Hairspray are probably John Waters' most accessible movies.

Unfortunately, Edward Furlong fell into the usual child actor trap of drugs and alcohol. It sounds like he was also sexually abused as a young teen, which is sad to read. I agree that he was a great actor. His talent would be talked about in a more favorable light IMO if his career had continued to thrive.

I don't have that list. James Woods, for example, is a loathsome person and the opposite of everything I believe, but the man is also a great actor. I'm not going to deprive myself of his films like The Onion Field, Videodrome, and Casino, in which he was apparently playing himself. Ditto Mel Gibson and Tom Cruise and Chris Pratt. Errol Flynn fiddled with underage girls and was possibly a Nazi sympathizer, and was the template for Peter O'Toole's alcoholic has-been in My Favorite Year, but I still enjoy Captain Blood and Gentleman Jim.

But that skank Mildred Natwick!
