Beatboy posted over at AVS that he talked to a couple of sources and that it's close, but HD-DVD won Transformers week. The guess was about 52:48.

Take this info with the appropriate grain of salt. Since he normally does not post anything that has any negativity regarding Blu-ray, this sounds believable to me. The close ratio may be the overly positive spin - or not.

I've stated it in some earlier posts, but if that's the best they're going to get, then that's still pretty sad. I mean, they have the #1 blockbuster of the summer, exclusively, and they STILL can't sweep us? This should have been at least in the upper 60's for this to have been a true win for DUD, and I'm sure they'll be gloating (just as we've been for the past year), but it's really a small victory in the war, and not one that will turn the tide in the slightest.

Sorry for the run-on sentence. Oh, and for the record, I still think we need to win 60+ or more for it to be a nail in the coffin of DUD, but I'm very seriously doubting that will be the case...

I will take that info with an entire box of salt...

The all time record high of the sale of any high def media title being on HD DVD will be bragging rights for a long time. Even considering that when/if it is ever released on Blu-ray, it will sell a huge number in that format.

That "number" could easily be shattered next week by Spidey 3. If not than POTC3 in December will certainly do the trick.

Beatboy is the same guy who the week of the Paramount deal said a big pro-Blu announcement was coming that week and the war was all over.

Historically speaking, his predictions and rumors have been right so little as to be functionally equivalent to wild guesses.

I have no idea where the week will end up. I still believe that anything less than 75:25 in favor of HD-DVD is a disaster for that camp...they can't pay 150 million for a single 70:30 week and call it good.

I hope. Even with the bad press about some players needing a firmware update.

How many have POTC 1&2 sold to date?

We've got bad news. As the link in the post above notes, and Home Media Magazine notes, the top two selling high def discs were Transformers and Planet Terror, both HD DVD. About 26 hours to go, but beating the top two will be tough.

Also, a post elsewhere noted that HD DVD sales increased almost 69% from Q1 to Q3, while Blu-ray increased just over 20%. The numbers track, from HMM.

Double ungood.

But, all the better if we still do pull it off.
Are we reading the same article. While it acknowledges that Transformers was the best selling HD title it says nothing about a Planet Terror HD DVD. Considering that this only came out on DVD it would be hard for it to be considered an HD DVD although granted I don't think there is much difference between the two. Planet Terror is the 2nd best selling DVD though. To clarify, only the last paragraph deals with HD media sales.

Yeah...the misunderstanding has already been straightened out in the rest of this thread.

I think it will be close with Blu-Ray taking the victory for the week with 57:43. Heres hoping that the HD-DVD party will burst into flames, no offense to anybody from So-Cal.

Yeah, I saw that in going back, that should teach me from walking away from my computer after typing a response and not sending it.

I'd be pretty happy if that's the margin of defeat. That'd be an embarrassment to the HD-DVD camp.

same here. seriously, 4% is nothing. if there were 400k hd discs sold last week its like hd dvd winning by 16k discs over blu-ray, hardly makes a dent in the 1.5 million discs they are down to blu-ray.

I hope that is because they have to add up all the big numbers reported for Blu.

Honestly I don't even want them to get one week, it will be their source of propaganda for the rest for the year. As you know people won't read the fine print, they know that they just want the headline.

I agree with Terjyn, anything less than 60% for the week would be a joke and they really should hit 70%.
