Ended up at the theater to see this last night so my teenage daughter and a few friends could get in. After a terrific, very creepy opening scene.....my goodness this film goes in several directions and really ends up sucking. I don't even know where to start. It was like watching a mix of the goonies and stand by me with an occasional appearance by some demon clown that didn't seem to have any real powers. He'd scare and then off he went. Why not just finish the job?

Incidentally, what WAS penny wises goal? What's the motivation? Why should I care? What are the rules around his powers and what he can do or not do? Some of the scenes and situations seemed extremely convenient and rather lazy. It was like "oh so you just do that to fix that problem". Got it. Lazy script and or writing. Very lazy.

The middle of the film was just a recycling of the kids on their bikes, one kid sees penny and get scared, then the bullies do stuff. Then. Ehhh. What's the objective here? It wasn't scary at ALL except for the first scene which was well done. So much early promise ruined by a crappy script, details missing about the motivations of our bad guy, and a plot that just draaaaaaaggggggged on for far too long. That's OK. I saw it and can safely take it off my list. Zero interest in seeing the next one. I really couldn't care less. The kids did their best and maybe a separate movie about just them might be fun but IT was basically useless.

And I don't care about the book either. Never read it, never will.

I hope It can make it to $400M WW but it's not doing as well overseas as the crazy NA money it's raking in.

I think IT is a lock for $500M WW at this point.

Definitely. $300 million US is a lock, maybe $350. And I was originally thinking a $30 million opening and $100 million total would be a great showing...
