Looks like several more big catalog titles will be released on UHD BD, info from the Digital Bits.

I do not shelve my disc with slip covers but I do store the covers in boxes. What is the attraction of Steelbook packaging?

I like the way they look but usually won't pay much extra to get one. The Steelbooks I do have I generally got cheaper than or the same price as the regular release through a sale. I did pre-order the Dune Steelbook special edition but it comes with extras the regular release doesn't have. In that instance I may splurge depending on the title.

My main reason for buying a steelbook is because of a dislike for the standard edition's packaging.

If the regular edition stacks the discs or stores them in those vice grip cardboard sleeves, I will instead buy the steelbook variant.

That's what I did with Game Of Thrones to avoid stacked discs (only season 8 in the steelbook set has stacked discs). I purchased the steelbook edition of the Back To The Future trilogy to avoid having the discs tightly wedged into cardboard sleeves.

This looks like the end of HBO Max doing simultaneous releases

I was looking forward to streaming the new Dune movie in October; seems unlikely now. Oh well, I can wait for the disc release; I am well accustomed to doing that, anyways.

That's great news! Criterion offering 4K discs at last.

Now, we can all move on to complaining about the titles they have chosen for release on 4K disc.

Pertaining to our earlier discussion regarding Seelbooks, the Scream 4K Steelbook is currently $24.80 on Amazon whereas the regular edition is $25.99. It's a nice looking Steelbook so needless to say I pre-ordered that one.

I don't know about the winning strategy part but I feel much more connected to my own movies now that I tend to find more time to watch them.

Its been over a year since I went to the theater and I honestly don't feel much need to go again anytime soon. Part of its the price. They keep raising the prices and at this point theaters near me have removed matinees and raised general prices so now its like 10 to 20 dollar a ticket to see a film.

At this point I basically feel like I should just wait for its physical release it will cost less and give me ownership. Its felt like a death spiral for a while with theaters they have flat lined ticket sales or decreasing ticket sales and to make it look like they have growth they increase prices which means they sell even less tickets.

A few movies are worth the ticket price at this point but most movies simply aren't worth it. It doesn't help that theaters can basically sell you a lemon of a film and its not like you can get your money back.

Not sure if you have any AMC theaters near you but I'm a member of their Stubs A-List program. I pay $21.95 a month and can see 3 movies a week. So for 12 movies in a month span I only pay $21.95. It's also includes IMAX and Dolby Cinema theaters. It's a great deal if you enjoy going to the movies and have one near you.

The problem with that is will we even get disc releases in a world where most movies go straight to streaming? Don’t forget, many are exclusives.
I feel the need to do my part to keep the cinema alive. It costs me £10 per film. Super sized screen and Dolby Atmos plus good memories? Bargain for me personally.

Thank goodness for this site.

I often use the collection feature to audit my collection.

Just now I'm about to go to several stores in town as I have my errands list and since Best Buy has items to pick up I can quicky scan to see if they have any movie sales I want to pick up on. (oh dear,... there's more 17.99 UHD titles currently at BB than I can really justify picking up!)
Edit picked up Howard the Duck, Gladiator and Braveheart)

Today I realized I may have 4 or 5 UHD BDs that I have never seen which means all the time I spend on youtube could have been spent better.

My town is adding a Target and with luck just maybe a new theater. My local theater still says opening soon and has posters of Scoob in the coming attractions area.

I will be very happy to support the cinema when it is safe for me to do so. Until then, I will just have to express my love for movies by buying them on disc.

Sorry to dissappoint you Brian. Disney's stock just went up $10 a share in after hours trading (it was up almost $2 today) because all their numbers beat the Street's expectations.

Disney+ Ends Q3 with 116 Million Subscribers; Launching ‘Disney+ Day’ on Nov. 11

Quote:
The Walt Disney Co. Aug. 12 reported that its branded Disney+ subscription streaming VOD service ended the third quarter (ended July 3) with 116 million subscribers — up from 57.5 million subs in the previous-year period.

When combined with ESPN+, Hulu and Hulu with Live TV, Disney ended the period with almost 174 million subs. Specifically, ESPN+ finished the quarter with 14.9 million subs, up from 8.5 million last year. Hulu increased its sub base to 39.1 million from 32.1 million. Online TV platform Hulu with Live TV topped 3.7 million subs from 3.4 million last year.

“We ended the third quarter in a strong position, and are pleased with the company’s trajectory as we grow our businesses amidst the ongoing challenges of the pandemic,” CEO Bob Chapek said in a statement.

Disney will bow “Disney+ Day” on Nov. 11 to celebrate the two-year anniversary launch of the SVOD platform. The event will coincide with new product announcements and platform strategies.
