Binged "Clickbait" on Netflix today. It was pretty cool. Presented in 4K/DV/Atmos.

Seeing Candyman tomorrow night in Dolby Cinema.

The new Laika Boxtrolls BD just dropped to $14.96 on Amazon, so had to scoop that up. It should ship with Coraline by Tuesday.

Bought these this week:

Watched Battleship last night and I have to say, it had the best immersive audio mix I've heard so far.

They've been remastered and have new bonus features. Paranorman and Kubo will also be getting these new re-releases at some point.

This is the review for Coraline (Laika's/Shout)

Regardless, disc until the end for me.
agree with the last statement but not the first paragraph. Not everyone will be passionate about the same stuff and I accept that this is my passion and it is not for many others, they have their passions that I don't share in. I prefer to wait for something good over something bad that is fast, but I can understand others that don't have that patience, to be honest (even though it is not the same thing) I have gone to theatres to see films that I could not wait for home releases. As for people on this site, yes I would expect most to be a bit more passionate about films then the public at large, but I don't remember having to pass a test to prove we were passionate about films, there could be many people that ended up on the site looking for how to hoop up the BD player they had just bought or looking for info on which one to buy or any other hits they got on Google and considering there are threads and sections on many subjects you can't know how they ended up here.

don't know what clickbait is about but "Binged" indicates it is a show not a movie and he watched several episodes in a row.

This is Clickbait:

It's an 8-episode limited series from Netflix.

Surely the best picture quality and audio tied to a HT should be a requirement for enthusiasts, no? If not, you might as well just hang a tv with a sound bar over your fireplace and be done?

Does your HT look like this one? No? Then your not an enthusiast.

Stupid argument. HT to me is the pursuit of replicating the cinema at home, according to one’s budget.

Part of that is AV quality.

But you didn't mention budget in your last post:

Do you have a 21x9 screen or just a 16x9 screen. That makes a BIG difference in getting the very best visual quality out of 2.39 AR movies which most Hollywood movies appear in. And that is a prerequesite for your definition of an "HT enthusiast" . . . the best quality.

Filling up a larger percentage of the screen doesn't improve the video quality.

Candyman was pretty cool. I thought the film would be more "woke" than what it was, but outside of a few sociological thematic elements, it was pretty awesome. The final stinger (no pun intended) blew everyone away. The Dolby Cinema presentation was awesome, as well. This one is definitely going into my 4K disc collection.

As opposed to seeing it in letterbox? Is that how they show them in commerical movie theaters?

Isn't the goal of home theater to duplicate the movie theater experience in your own home?

My local theater that was built less than 10 years ago has 16:9 screens. I didn't even realize the screens were 16:9 until I saw a 16:9 movie there.

In a dark room (either at home or at a theater) letterboxing isn't noticeable at all.

Well my local theater complex has both 21:9 and 16:9 screens.

Showing a 21:9 image on a 16:9 screen results in a 20% loss of image per frame made up of the black bars. Letterboxing is a compromise. That's all.

Any benefit in watching the original before we go see it tomorrow at matinee? I’ve watched before, but my sons have never seen the original.

I think so. There are a few callbacks to the first film.
