Daily Grindhouse interviewed two Arrow staff members, Mike Hewitt, the brand marketing manager, and Louise Buckler, the community development manager. Included below is an excerpt about titles they'd want to release. Link to full article below also. Although this is specific to Arrow US, maybe we might see some of these titles here in the future.

Quote:
Daily Grindhouse: Are there any films you’re chomping at the bit to acquire?

MH: There’s hundreds. I could go on and on. I would love to do DANGER: DIABOLIK, but that one’s really tricky to sort of get ahold of. A Japanese film called WILD ZERO which is really hard to get the rights for because it’s kind of tangled up. I would love to do that one. At the Arrow office, we’re always having this discussion and debate and we always get fan suggestions coming in that we may not reply to, but we read all the suggestions. THE KEEP comes up quite a lot. We’d love to do a proper version of Michael Mann’s THE KEEP.

LB: I would love for us to do more Miike. VISITOR Q is one of the ones I would to do because I think it’s fantastic. It’s a really divisive film that I think we could do really good extras for. Another one would be Gaspar Noe’s I STAND ALONE, which I really, really love. In the UK, it hasn’t had a DVD or Blu-ray release so I think it’s just time. And we could obviously put shorts on there as well and I think it would just make an incredible package. So that one’s probably my top title.

My slip wasn't sealed, but the Amaray inside was. I got it from Amazon.

Personally, I don't understand the clamour for that film, even though I enjoyed the novel it's based on. As a matter of fact, just yesterday the latest newsletter from F. Paul Wilson (the author of the novel) arrived, and in it he unequivocally named Mann's flick as his least favourite film ever, of any genre. Of course, he might be just a little partisan ...

I really, really hope they could make this one possible!

Wild Zero is an amazing film. I saw it at the Leeds film festival years ago, and eventually found it on DVD. Would love to see Arrow (or anyone for that matter) give it a serious release.

+1

The Keep is just terrible, and not in a so-terrible-it's-funny way. The one thing is has going for it is the Tangerine Dream score, if you are into that, but else ...

The local film museum had a complete Michael Mann retrospective some 10 years ago, and I got to see a nice 35mm print of it back then. That was enough for me.

I would much rather someone would release The Jericho Mile instead, Mann's debut, a made-for-TV movie that was released theatrically overseas. That one was rather good and sort of important, as some of the themes he has explored throughout his career is already present in it in a rough form.

I really like the film but agree it's not for everyone. The author has made it clear he doesn't like it but that not uncommon when a director tries to produce a more personal cinematic vision which departs from the source novel (eg. The Shining, A Clockwork Orange, American Psycho).

Many years ago Empire magazine included the Keep in there '50 Unsung 5 Star Movies' feature. I managed to watch it not long after reading that and really enjoyed it. The film definitely has a decent number of fans, whether they be those that follow the work or Michael Mann or are fans of cult horror films. Considering it's a major studio release and was directed by one of America's leading directors, it is incredible it has never been released on either DVD or Blu-ray, a fact which I think has added to it's cult status.

Not sure if there's anything to take from this, but Arrow have teased a potential Friday the 13th-related release with a pic of Jason next to today's calendar date.

Probably nothing, but Saturday the 14th is with Lakeshore/Image I believe. Arrow haven't made a deal with Paramount to date so I can't see Friday the 13th happening.

so i just ordered glass key, dahlia, and ox bow from base.com. they all came with booklets. thin booklets, but booklets nonetheless.

Obviously means I'll want to try and get The Glass Key also with the booklet, but may wait to see if it goes on sale either at HMV/Fopp or elsewhere.

Would also like booklets for the others you mentioned, especially The Ox-Bow Incident and Hangmen Also Die, but obviously it's a gamble. Might be better to pick those up instore at HMV should they have another £7.99 Academy promotion. That's what I did last time, for Hard to Be a God - the copy I ordered from them online had no booklet, so I returned it and bought a copy instore. However, Three Brothers still had a booklet, but was only released a few months before the promotion whilst Hard to Be a God was roughly a year old by then.

Guessing that's Arrow Video titles, at least mostly? I'd be happy to snap up a few I wasn't interested in buying on release, or couldn't afford at the time - especially 52 Pick-Up, Dark Water, The Burning, Dead-End Drive-In, Burnt Offerings, and maybe some of the Battles Without Honour and Humanity ones.

I can also confirm Blanche (from Base) comes with a booklet. Still waiting on Waking Life (Amazon UK), Shivers (Amazon UK), the two noirs (Zavvi/Amazon US seller from UK), and Phantom of Paradise (Amazon UK). Can confirm if they come with booklets should anyone be interested.
just a heads up on the booklets issue for some previously mentioned academy titles: now that i got these 6, i can happily say that all of them still came with booklets.
i ordered "Too late for tears" from entertainment store (ebay), "Woman on the run" from zavvi, and the other 4 from base.com.

Here they are with the reversible covers (simply love the artwork on all of them!):

It would be amazing to get a Friday 13th set over here, and even more amazing if they really surprised everyone at their summer camp slasher all nighter by making that secret film Friday 13th in a new restoration, instead of The Slayer.

And yes, I am aware just how deep I have wandered into fantasy land

Yes it has, but the fact is the picture is an obvious Friday 13th reference regardless of when it was originally created.

Picked up Madman, Motel Hell, Society and Lifeforce from the sale at Fopp Edinburgh. All of which are blind buys for me so looking forward to finally giving them a watch. Probably looked like a bit of a loon trying to gauge the weight of them and peering in the sides for booklets, but the only one I didn't get one for was Lifeforce so it worked out ok
