I'm not keen on CGI "fixing" noticeable stunt doubles, even it is just branched feature. Seems like with these fixes you loose as much as you gain.

I'm at peace with the fact that I'm watching a show that's 50+ years old and was being made on tight time consternates, and that there were budget limitations as well as limits to what could actually be done at the time. I'm cool with all that.

But then again, I'm one of those nuts that want's the original theatrical versions of the first three Star Wars films, even if it means the landspeeder effect looks like it was accomplished using a colored marker.
You’re not ‘losing anything’ if both versions are present. The general idea is that the original directors and creators of the shows absolutely positively did not want stunt doubles to be noticeable.

I wish George Lucas was allowed to "restore" Star Trek TOS. I wanted a scene of Spock on the bridge juggling tribbles while Uhura and Chekov did the Macarena. Of course the tribbles would have to blink.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that even as a kid watching on a 14" TV I could easily tell they were stunt doubles. It didn't bother me then and it doesn't now, it all adds to the charm.

Star Trek is a science fiction TV and movie series that many people wish would become a reality in several hundreds of years in terms of some of the technology that appears in Star Trek. But technology wise the humans of the earth have several hundreds of years before potentially reaching that level of technology. In recent years there has been a lot of failures with rocket launches from NASA, Space X, and even China. Possible more investigations need to be made into making sure the third party components being purchased are meeting or exceeding their stated specifications. Most people want the nations of the earth to have successful space programs, however it takes a lot of education and hard work to make that a reality.

William Shatner took a flight on Blue Origin and safely returned last year in 2021. On September 12th 2022 a booster failure occurred on Blue Origin rocket during an uncrewed launch, however hypothetically if William Shatner would have been on that rocket, he would have been completely safe since Blue Origin has outstanding safety with the capsule escape system successfully separating from the rocket and landing back on earth during a rocket launch emergency situation.

Quotes of just a few recent rocket failures in the USA and China

“Explosive footage shows the New Shepard capsule's solid rocket escape system fire up to safely eject the capsule away from the rocket's first stage.”

https://interestingengineering.com/i...ocket-exploded

“Hydrogen leaks spoiled the first two launch attempts, as well as earlier countdown tests. So much hydrogen escaped during the countdown earlier this month that it exceeded NASA’s limit by more than double. Wednesday's leak almost got that big again.”

https://apnews.com/article/astronomy...c241c3d3590732

“Providing initial results of an internal failure investigation, Musk said the strut in question, one of several aboard the rocket that was purchased from an unidentified vendor, apparently failed well below its design specification, allowing the high-pressure helium bottle it was holding in place to twist away.”

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/elon-mu...-failed-strut/

“ The China Manned Space Engineering Office released a statement saying that most of the debris burned up in the atmosphere, and it is unlikely to cause significant harm.”

I’m pretty bad at catching doubles. Never caught them here.

They need to do some reverse scans to look for errors.

Don't forget that we also need to know how the blu-rays look downscaled to a 480p TV.

So what was the consensus on the theatrical cut disc compared to the branched version with the DLX?

I dunno about consensus but the new theatrical/SLV disc is excellent IMO. Even tighter compression than the 2021 disc, lovely recreations of the OG subs (2021 disc has the usual bland text), plus the SLV scenes in seamless quality.

What do you mean by tighter compression?

Are you saying it is encoded better despite managing the extended bits on the same disc?

Do any of Theatrical parts look different/better to the 2021 disc?

You’re misrepresenting what I said.

The “loss” refers to the quality of the fixes. On these ‘improved’ editions some of the fixes look and work great. But it seems like for every fix that works there’s a fix that doesn’t work, that looks bad, actually worse than whatever it’s trying to fix, and often what’s being fixed wasn’t that bad to begin with.

That’s the gain/loss I was referring to. To put it another way, I find ‘improved’ editions to be a mixed bag and therefore don’t feel that they’re really needed.

Personally, I’m not comfortable using the “what the original directors and creators wanted” as justification for these changes as it becomes a slippery slope that allows for more and increasingly unnecessary changes.

“But both versions are present”

Yeah, that’s great.

The problem I have is that the release of the series in 4K is delayed while they make this “improved” edition, and then the cost of producing thie edition is going to be baked in and inflate the cost of the series when it’s released. All for something that’s going to be a mixed bag and in my opinion really isn’t needed to begin with.

Postal strikes causing a backlog unfortunately but I love your optimism so stick with that instead.

looks like walmart online and best buy just can't seem to keep star trek director cut 4k in stock just an hour ago both were in stock now gone

tell me something is it really worth having the complete adventures only for the longer version tv cut if a person can't get 1st movie director cut and want it along with 5,6 but apprently there are issues and they should just get 6 disc 4k boxset and sell off the first 4 film 4k boxset

i'm still in difference onto what to do whenever i get that 100 bucks bank in bank tomorrow if i should do 6 disc 4k set or complete adventure boxset

The SLV has a place in many people's hearts, but that is really a personal choice.

If you have the 4 movie set, then getting V, VI and the DE 4K releases should have you covered beyond the SLV.

In my case, I went for the 6-movie set since I did not have any previous 4K releases and it gave me everything except the SLV.

It should be noted that there is no individual release of the TMP theatrical edition in 4K.
