Good night Russ!

I have been playing drums for 31 years, and I think that has caused much more damage. Total shot in the dark, I'm guessing that I normally have an average db rating on my HT of about 73~78. I really want to get an SPL meter. The only time I notice that my hearing is damaged is in a completely silent room. I can barely hear a constant very high pitched noise. It reminds me of the sound an old CRT tv makes when you first turn it on with the sound turned down.

I tried to look this up, and found opposing opinions on this, but I tend to think that certain frequencies are worse than others. It seems to me that 2~3k at 85db would be much worse than say 30~40hz at 85db. I do know that 2~3k tends to hurt my ears more than 30~40hz at higher levels, and it seems like common sense that pain=bad. I know that our range of hearing is more centered around 2~3k than 30~40hz, but what do you think: Are certain frequencies worse on your ears than others, or is it strictly db levels only, regardless of the frequency? I would be interested in anyone's opinions on this.

I love that first bass guitar slide-down right before the song kicks in. You know what I'm talking about? I think that Pork Soda is the best mixed album they ever put out.

I have some hearing loss too Joe. Yes it sure is annoying at times you really just want complete silence. My tinnitus sounds like when you return back after a rock concert but never stops. Luckily what have is very mild as opposed too what some others have.

That's pretty much what mine is like, but it has to be pretty quiet for me to notice it.

Oops. She looks sorta like Elisha Cuthbert circa Old School:

Oh shit!

I have a short list of must see movies this year: Prometheus, The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

I can't think of anything else that grabs my attention like those do.

I don't speak German, and I also have a healthy buzz, so this seems very funny to me.

RIBBIT......... Good morning buddy

Go to RadioShack NOW!!!! and get that meter

You've made some valid points ...... Lets see if I can tackle them one by one First, I too suffer from a slight case of Tinnitus (ringing in the ear) caused by the riskier behavior of my youth.....Playing the Keyboards, Engineering live events, Mobile deejaying, going to auto races and the list goes on . But for me the symptoms are sporadic and when they do come it doesn't last long (yet).

Now playback volume levels often depend or go hand in hand (with me at least) with the backround noise. Right now I'm watching Hercule Poirot episodes in my office and the meter is averaging from lower than 50db to peaks of around 58 db (It's 5 am here). Now later on in the day my normal comfort range is about 65 - 70ish db's with peaks about 15 -20 db's higher. My rule of thumb is..... having the dialog in a movie at a natural listening level (or slightly lower) and let the peaks go where they may

And your right...... in that human hearing is more sensitive to the higher frequencies than the lower ones .... (sorta ) see ...... http://www.silcom.com/~aludwig/EARS.htm

Decided to scrap the mini pc idea and instead find the most powerful laptop for the least amount of money.

Found and bought one with:

17.3" TFT-Aktivmatrix, Intel® Core™ i3-2330M Processor (3M Cache, 2.20 GHz), 4GB DDR3 Ram, AMD Radeon HD 7670M (1GB), 500GB Harddrive, DVD Burner and much more.

482€/635$. In the US your electronic devices is quite a bit cheaper than in the EU. This is a pretty good deal considering the normal EU prices.
