I continue to not be blown away by the PQ of a movie when red dragon is the main camera. Idk what it is. Usually there's quite a few people in those threads that say "it looked good but didn't blown me away" or "I was expecting more". I know a film like Allied and some others had pretty mixed opinions on the PQ. PR looked pretty good, but not as good as the other demo moves Imo.

Are you guys saying that Dolby Vision cannot morph every film into the perfect showing for every consumer?

I thought it was OK, watched the HDR10 version, but after reading some reviews, I expected John Wick 2 type quality. As stated above, it was not. Movie wasn't that good either.

Does every UHD Power Rangers disk have Dolby Vision?

I have the latest firmware on my Oppo 203 and LG C7, but I can't get Dolby Vision to work on the 4k Power Rangers disk I got off eBay. Regular HDR works fine though.

I've tried powering both off and on in different orders, setting Oppo's HDR to "auto" and messing with some other settings to no avail.

I'm considering purchasing a brand new one from Walmart with the DV sticker on it.

Buying discs on Ebay is always a risk.

Yeah it might be a bootleg. If an ebay deal seems too good to be true it probably is. Only buy from people who post real photos.

Actually DV can. It’s just that perfect is defined by the director, studio, Dolby, and the manufacture of your display. It’s just your lying eyes that fool you into thinking, “I spent my hard earned money for this!”

I'm having the same problem. Mine came from BestBuy.com and didn't have the DV sticker. I have a LG UH8500 with an Oppo running through a Denon AVR-X7200.

Run the video direct to the TV and bypass the AVR, it should then work

Are you running through a receiver? Only 2017 model receivers do DV right now. 2016 models will get a FW update. Anything earlier and you're SOL.

There are no bootleg UHD discs so don't worry. It would only be a bootleg BD.

Hmm. How about we all take pictures of our discs to compare? This is mine, from Amazon. And it comes with the Dolby Vision sticker. But other than the sticker on the slipcover, there's nothing else to indicate it's Dolby Vision encoded. Not on the slipcover, not on the box, not on the disc itself.

You'll need to run a separate cable to the TV directly, as the 2016 Denon's right now don't pass the signal without doing a slight modification to it. HDR10 is fine, but it means that the DV metadata doesn't get passed because of how they embed it. Have to wait for a firmware update otherwise. I had to change my living room setup to get around this.

Heh. Yeah, it's more that DV won't magically transform movies into eye-candy, but it will provide the best tailoring of that movie for the capability of your specific display. This is what I keep saying over and over about what Dolby Vision actually is in the context of the home video version: it's NOT about the grading of the HDR movie at source level - done entirely separately in the usual shot-by-shot manner with the PQ EOTF (SMPTE ST 2084) on whichever grading suite, just as HDR10 would be - but about creating a set of metadata from that source. Your finished HDR grade is piped into the Dolby CMU for an initial colour analysis, using your target display's specs (usually 100-nit 709) as the thin end of the wedge, and the resultant metadata can be manually tweaked from there before being finalised.

Point being, none of that will turn a movie into eye candy if it simply wasn't graded to be eye candy in the first place, the DV metadata is about staying as true to that source as possible within the confines of x display.

You are running a DV signal through a 2015 Denon receiver! That is you problem.

If you have the 203 run one cable directly to the display. The one that came with the player and run the other HDMI out to the receiver. Problem solved. The LG will decode the DV signal.

I had issues with the cable Oppo provided. I swapped it out with a Monoprice certified premium cable and didn't have anymore handshake drop outs.

This is right, I have my oppo 203 set up like this since I have a Denon x6200w and I have not had any problems with any movie yet.

The 2015 denons do not support DV. I had to sell it and purchase a 2017 model last week. The things we do for DV...

It's not a bootleg disk!

Dolby Vision is working and looks GREAT, turns out it was the 2015 receiver. Bypassed it and went straight to the TV and send audio to AVR. Thanks, guys. (:
