The movies were dubbed in German and released by Panini in 2005, the same company that released both movies in Italy (in fact the same DVDs). I'd assume that this was some kind of sublicense by Manga Video, as the DVD carries that logo too. The German dub for the Movies used the same cast as the TV series, but had some inconsistent dialogue.
https://www.dynit.it/news/EvangelionUltimateEdition The Italian release claims to include the "classic" Italian dub, but I assumed that they use the 2009 Dynit redub of both movies instead of the Italian dub by Panini. |

Correct, it's going to be Dynit redub. Due to numerous buyouts and complicated sub-licensing schemes for the shows, most Manga dubs are nowadays lost in rights limbo anyway (and the master material being lost as well, french release of Honnéamise movie has part of the dub from a VHS rip). Also, while I can't talk for the german dub, the french one is unlistenable to. When the movies were re-released in France in 2013 as subbed only, many people reacted with a phrase like "ah yes, they didn't insult the show by not including that".

If the GKIDS release can’t include the Manga English dubs of the films, then maybe that’s what Amanda Winn Lee was referring to when she tweeted about doing “pickups” for an old character she never thought she’d voice again. It’s possible GKIDS commissioned new dubs of the films. Then again, plenty of Manga English dubs have been cleared for reissue, including GKIDS using their dub of Perfect Blue.

I wouldn't transpose that fact to english Manga Entertainments dubs so fast, but European ones in various languages. Manga had sublicensed their catalog to various long- (or short-) lived distributors which did their own dubs, and Manga never cared about those so never bothered to get the materials back.
Discotek could license Wicked City UK dub from… some unknown company which was most definitely not Manga UK recently, so it's not a dead-end. But maybe GKIDS does not want to pay that company a penny so they are re-dubbing the movies. Last edited by SpaceDandy; 07-28-2021 at 07:22 PM. |

Even Manga UK excluded the Manga UK Dub of Wicked City due to licensing issues...
Regarding the German Dub: Panini is still active in background, afaik they hold the German rights for the Naruto franchise (even including Boruto) - despite sublicensing everything to other companies. But if Manga held the dub? ![]() |

I do find it silly that, if someone has located the rights to a dub, the next company doesn't try to get that information from them. I can understand if they're huge competitors but it's not the case here. So probably it's the first reason, either because they're being cheap or they don't want to license something from a direct competitor (e.g Starz-Funimation affair, anyone remembers?). |

Which one of these versions of EoE was released on the Manga Entertainment DVD? It's been a while but I do remember the two acts with the credits in between (I believe the credits rolled by spiraling like a strand of DNA or something). Was EoE revival not released in the US in this case?

Death is the original cut, but then they went to the first half of EoE instead of the Rebirth version (which had some alternate animation) |

So we never got the final “revival” version of EoE in the US, as mentioned in that list from earlier?
