The director of King's book adaptation has stated his script makes reference to Kubrick's movie version of The Shining a few times, not just the novel, since he considers it a masterpiece.
Ugh there’s no need to connect it to Kubricks movie. Or even make a reference. Kubrick made that movie complete. There’s no need to revisit it in a sequel to KINGS book. Ridiculous.

I'm sure a lot of people going to see Doctor Sleep have probably seen the Kubrick adaptation as it's the only movie version of quality to reference. The made-for-TV version written by King himself was atrocious... even if it actually used exteriors of The Stanley Hotel, the inspiration for The Overlook and followed the book a little more closely.

Kubrick actually outdid King!

Maybe it will use photo stills from the movie and show Jack Nicholson as Danny's father and Shelley Duvall as his mother. I don't know if clips from the Kubrick film will be used as flashback images or not.

Then they should have done a book accurate movie first. Then make doctor sleep off that.

I don't think anyone wants to try and top the Kubrick version. It's brilliant. King is just sore that it's considered a classic and sometimes remembered more vividly than his novel.

Kubrick was correct in shifting things to a more psychological horror level with the acting pushing the story than a special effects driven vehicle.

I just don’t think they should try to use Kubricks film at all considering King always trashed it and this is gonna be a faithful adeptation to a King book. It just rubs me the wrong way.

Now I was totally for The Shining prequel that Mark Romanek was gonna do. A director that’s a true fan of Kubricks film adding to the mythology more. I don’t want Kong’s mythology associated with Kubricks masterpiece.

Well, it looks like you'll have to be disappointed. It does use Kubrick as a reference for this sequel. I actually think it's a good thing and hopefully DS uses a more dramatic bent just like it and not like the new It. Not one frightening or creepy thing in the whole darn movie... just a heavy reliance on digital effects banging you upside the head.

I don’t want King Kong to be associated with The Shining either.

Yes, in a fully restored version this year. In time for the film adaptation of Dr. Sleep that supposedly references Kubrick's classic.

Man. Director Mike Flanagan has some set tackling what will no doubt be scrutinized from every direction. Dr Sleep will be anticipated but those are some shoes to fill

For all I know, Flanagan makes a turkey that can no way be compared to Kubrick's masterpiece, but maybe has a picture of Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall on the mantel at Danny's house to say that they were his parents. Perhaps that's as far as he goes. He could do that since WB is also releasing this film.

It depends. Some studios will if they think there is potential for buyers, or only the UHD Blu-ray will get the new scan or re-master.

However, if you want to see a 35mm film scanned in 4k (possibly oversampled at 6k) in actual 2160 resolution, then you have to get the UHD Blu-ray.
