I'm curious if these are really going to be the original theatrical cut and the original director's cut or the same altered theatrical and altered director's cut that appeared on prior Blu-ray releases?

** Altered Theatrical cut in which the "jump cut" when Karras expels the demon from his body at the end has been replaced by a subtle morph, and the 70s Warner Bros. logo has been replaced by a recent one

** Altered Director's cut, in which two of the demon/gargoyle face effects have been removed

I'll be shocked if the original theatrical cut of the film will ever be released on blu-ray.

Since I had done audio commentaries I offered to do one, and even asked if they would like to get Linda Blair (all for the HERETIC) .... since Linda was in Connecticut and I am in NY I figured it would be easier. Hell, if she were up to it she could come to my home where I have done an audio commentary previous to make things easier and very cheap. They turned it down. Although they did use some of my collection as bonus materials they turned down a lot. An amazing thing considering they DON'T PAY or offer TO PAY for the stuff. All I got was a free DVD out of it.
That sucks bro! Do you know anything about these blu releases? Are we getting anything at all or are they barebones?

The discs are probably going to be identical to what's already out there.

I'm glad that those CGI statues were removed from the extended cut as they look terrible.

It's a shame that the rest of the added CGI wasn't removed.

+1. Right. They're going to be the exact same prints already released. I dont think the original/original will be released or it would have been done the very first time around with the 2010 digibook.

What was the other added CGI?

I agree that the two shots of the statue in the darkness before finding out about Burke had to go!

http://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=5706806

They're mostly shown in this comparison page.

There is another one which wasn't included in that comparison.

The other one is a CGI face morph that appears during the scene where Regan gets hypnotized.

Plus the the one that was originally added into the Theatrical Cut for its 25th Anniversary re-release which replaced a jump cut during the scene where Father Karras gets possessed.

I hope this info helps.

Yup it looks awful.

When it comes to the Extended Cut I can live with the added footage but the CGI that was added was stupid and unnecessary.

Apparently William Friedkin was going for realistic, documentary type style with the film so adding in CGI demonic faces kinda goes against that as it doesn't look realistic at all.

I haven't been in contact with WB for years. I'm hoping that they will include more from their vaults but I doubt it.
Two of the items I had offered were radio spots from an early re-release of THE EXORCIST. I love the one went like this...
"When it opened box office records everywhere were shattered... as an unprepared world, came under the spell, of THE EXORCIST. NOW! Warner Brothers brings back the classic motion picture that started it all! The original "EXORCIST". THIS TIME, DON'T SAY YOU WEREN'T PREPARED."
Here and there between the words are sound of Regan and Chris screaming while Tubular Bells plays.

Yeah, Friedkin is great at creating some confusing choices regarding his older work. Just like Lucas, he feels the need to add something to make his masterpieces worse. Be it the CGI in The Exorcist or the terrible color timing to The French Connection (thankfully fixed later by the DP making a public stink about his disgust with Friedkin), he should just learn to leave his films well enough alone.

Thing is, I really have no problem with the scenes that he added into The Exorcist. It's a great version to watch after you've seen the superior Theatrical Cut. It's very much the same to me as Coppola's Apocalypse Now.

Yes! If I had it my way the venthood demon would have been the first to go!

When I hear Tubular Bells, even to this day, it makes my skin crawl and tingle, and my hair stand on end. WOW! I love this movie.

does anyone here like the prequels? i watched both and loved one of them but forget which lol. they are quite different movies. i know most people hate them but i seem to like a lot of movies people hate.

anyway, Exorcist 3 is one of my favorite movies of all time. i would get this set just for that one. i love part one and am kind of excited to see part two again because maybe ten years ago i watched it and enjoyed it even though everyone hates it. with the prequels included in this set, it will be awesome for me!

Wow!! That sounds just creepy! I was hoping with the 40th release last year that they would have gone all out and released everything else they had left for it. Looks like more future releases to milk every little last buck they can get out of it. I have an original vhs copy and on it it says "the tale of possession that shocked millions". Doesnt hold true today because of all the re-releases and other stupid little possession films. It does for me but i saw it way to young back in like '88 when i was 9 or 10 and when the market wasnt saturated with these types of films. Today i hear people say the dumbest sh%t about The Exorcist like "oh, its not scary" or "that movie is funny, like a horror comedy" . Maybe people today are too desensitized. I find the film great, but still scary! I love it!

I'm not a fan of The Beginning (aside from the two lead performances) but I adore Dominion. I think the original, 3 and Dominion make a great trilogy.

Here you go, found a way for everyone to hear this. This is the radio spot I mention in a post it hasn't be heard, as far as I know, for over 30 years! Enjoy!
