Just watched the Italian 4k (Argento) tonight. Probably the first time I've seen this film in the last 25-30 years. I'm amazed at how good it was after all of these years. Funny enough, I remember certain plot elements removed from the cut. I'm really hoping to get a copy of the upcoming Second Sight standard 4k so I can experience the film with HDR. Even with dated effects, I never lost immersion. I guess there's a reason people still talk about this film to this day.

Just an FYI, Diabolik has around 9 copies of the limited edition BD set in stock.

I'm not saying movie audiences should fully dictate how movies are made. But Hollywood is a business aswell. Understand that people go to the movies with the intent of being entertained, and you know.... Show some respect to the audience. Give them something to actually enjoy.

Haha. Didn't think I get a late response from yeah.

I just trust George and even if he doesn't hit it outta the park (like he did when he fumbled with Diary) I still appreciate what he did.
Plus this was not a Hollywood picture by any means. George has been making independent movies for a long time and this was his call back to then.
I like that he tried to do a different style of filmmaking with it (calling back to his time doing Mr. Rogers episodes and sports documentaries). It was also typical him to do a film that spoke upon real world issues. But that was a misstep as the world has grown weary of 9/11 analogies by it's release in 2007. (Though one could argue that it helped predicted how millennials and gen z would handle themselves during a crisis/or extreme situations - they film it.)
The other misstep was connecting it to Night of the Living Dead. That to me was unnecessary and it hardly connects due to the eras they're from.

So yeah, George might have made something that's not very entertaining to most, but I found it an interesting attempt at getting back to his roots. It's a movie along with Survival that I plan on watching again and seeing if I missed something.

Back tot topic, I hope Dawn gets a surprised announcement this year for Region A.

I've been close to preordering the standard UK release, but that region locked BD full of extras makes me hesitant. I'd be pissed if I bought it then a US set with same/similar extras is announced.

Second Sight could have squashed any hesitation with anyone had they just put all of the extras on a UHD disc.

I'm going to assume the reason they didn't was Rubenstein. I don't think Second Sight had the ability to play dumb a la Arrow and their UHD release of Battle Royale ("Yeah Toei, it's Region B, wink wink").

That's what I figured as well. Another (but less preferable) option would have been to spread the extras out over the 3 UHDs.

I mean I don't want you to be mad, but I DO hope it gets release West side and it comes with all the bell n whistles.
Sorry.

I paid $11 for mine originally and sold it for $50 a couple years ago (sealed).

I'm sure you could get at least something for it from the hardcore collector crowd.

Sorry.
Unless you're Richard Rubenstein, you didn't make me mad.

They have their flaws, but I prefer Diary and Survival over Land because of their independent feel alone.

I guess I missed your response before.

Honestly, he probably went as far as he could go with the first 4 movies... He struggled to get funding for other movies and since he always has a small budget he probably just tried to have fun and experiment.

Land has plenty of issues, but what followed it was just too much of a step down for me.

For anyone who has picked up the Second Sight... the regular standard 4k release is looking pretty nice to me. I'm SURE this has been asked before, but...I'm assuming all the extras are on BD and region locked? Anyone have insight?

Thanks!

Locked. You do get four commentary tracks on the 4k discs.

Some of the new extras are really good, too. I wouldn’t hold out hope for them being on an eventual region a release since Severin’s name is all over them. Unless Severin gets the rights, of course.

Severin produced special features have popped up on other US releases (Criterion's Betty Blue comes to mind right away) so it is possible that a Region A release could include them (Document of the Dead, however, most likely wouldn't be included.)

I keep a second region-free player strictly for Region B releases and then let my UHD player handle everything else, so I'm good, but I'm trying to use the older region-free player less if I can avoid it... was just curious. Thanks.

Are any Canadian online retailers selling the standard 4k release? Diabolik charges up the ass to ship to Canada, so was hoping I could save a bit of money.

I only have the XT Video set that I bought off a collector for cheap, but the transfers on that set leave MUCH to be desired. I only got it for the novelty of owning an 'official' release of the Extended Mall Hours cut.
