I was actually refering to the AA subs and not your new purchase since you can buy the AA-HD subs on ebay for less than the downfire subs on the DD website, so I'm sorry if I sounded like a snob.

Be sure to leave a review on the new sub you ordered, I'm sure there are a few of us that are curious to hear about it.

OK, are you ready for this? It turns out I did buy the "lower quality model" after all, or at least the most generic one. The Theater Solutions Sub12D is the exact same subwoofer that Acoustic Audio sells, but they call it the RWSUB 12 instead! I kid you not.

DD no longer seems to carry the RWSUB 12 -- well, at least I can't find any on their website -- but if you take a close look at the RWSUB 15 and the Sub12D everything is the same; cabinet, driver, amp, attached power cable, feet, even the plate on the front which has the companies name is identical (except for the name itself, of course)..

Busted!

although this is a sealed sub it still has a port vent that runs the width and depth of the top of the sub, about an inch thick. tons of air pumps through it. port noise seems minimal at best however. would be best to get the sub away from the wall. although it still is putting out good bass from my listening position.

as far as the cabinet. it seems very solid. the seams are perfect and the knock test is decent. it is a fairly big sub, bigger than i pictured it. the only thing I don't like about it is that it's black on the sides but grey on top. a very good build for something so cheap.

you are right about the specs, the on-line manual says it goes down to 20 but the one that came with the sub says it goes down to 23 or something. which of course is one of the selling points.

overall though I would say it is more like a real sub than a toy, and if you're looking for just that extra edge of savings it's worth consideration.

good luck

you'll have to forgive me I was under the impression that this was a sealed sub. So it kind of took me by surprise when I noticed the port vent. I thought I might warn others... I guess it was a brain fart.

I guess I did not make the list of owners BigDaddy?

I do own an AA HD-SUB10 Black.

thanks

I have been too busy (
[Show spoiler]too lazy
) to add the names to the list of owners.

I added your name to the list because anybody with a name that is associated with the guy in the picture deserves some respect.

Sorry to hear that.
I wonder if they are doing business under two seperate company names.
Good thing you put that info out there, you may have saved someone else from the same heartache and frustration.

What would be a fair price to sell my HD Sub 10? Cherry (or custom JJ marble finish), perfect condition. I'm thinking $120.

You can list it at that price and see what happens. Make sure you post several pictures of the sub so that people realize how nice it looks.

Hello, I am new to the forum. Who is Big Daddy? He sounds like a salesman for the company. These sub's sound like a real bargain for the quality that you get for your money. I just purchased the 15 in down firing black sub to match the rest of my HT system.

Big Daddy, just got my RW sub 15in down firing 600 watt and set it up. I used a single subwoofer cord from my receiver to the L sub input. It is working, but if I get and adapter and plug it into the L/R sub input will the volume increase? Judgement on the overall quality seems ok, but is there a break-in period?

The answer to both questions is YES.

On many subwoofers, when you connect the sub cable to both the left and the right inputs with a Y adapter (two male, one female), the output increases. This is equivalent to increasing the gain on the subwoofer.

According to many owners of AA subs, they have experienced a break-in period.

Don't forget that the placement of the subwoofer is extremely inportant. For most rooms, if you put the subwoofer in a croner about a foot or so away from the walls, it will sound the loudest. Also, it is important that you set all your speakrs to SMALL so that all the bass frequencies are redirected to the subwoofer.

Lastly, with one subwoofer, you will always have peaks and valleys of bass frequencies. At some locations, the bass will be too loud and at some other locations, you hardly hear any bass. That is the main reason why it is recommended that you use two subwoofers. Two subwoofers can create more output, but more importantly, they will make the bass more even across the room for all listening positions.

It may be helpful to read https://forum.blu-ray.com/subwoofers...nt-part-i.html.

Default Setup Acoustic Audio Subwoofer

I read your thread on bass management and it was very informative. Now that I have connected a female adapter so that the subwoofer cable from the receiver to the sub can connect in the R/L sub input and let the sub break-in a little bit ( 2 hours ), it sounds much better and stronger. At first I did not think I would be saying this, but I am becoming a fan of this sub. This is from a Klipsch audiophile and I love Klipsch products. This sub has a sound between a passive and active subwoofer if that make any sense. It has a very natural sound and is not colored, I really like!

I would also like to thank/blame Big Daddy for suggesting the HD-SUB12.
I bought it when my B.A. HPS-12HO was in repair for several weeks, and now that I have two 12" moderately powered subs, I could never go back to one. I hope to eventually have four 12" subs.

Gotta say I am still impressed w/ my AA HD-15sub.
I am now gearing up to get another, just have figure out how to con my wife into letting me put another one in the living room.

I see it as 15 more inches of low frequency pleasure, she'll see it as another piece of furniture do to its massive size.

im curious tho, would you (those who've purchased this years ago), consider the monoprice sub, since its pretty much identical to this one?

at the price point of $80 clams, im pretty tempted... considered it looks like a 'rebranding'...

thoughts?
