Is this a canonical reboot (Halloween 2018 and Jigsaw) or an actual reboot/remake of the franchise?

I mean...you'd think with all she's been through.

What a twist that'd be?

I hope they bring back the original cast.

I’d be okay with this if they did it right (ala Halloween 2018). Get the original cast back and tell a streamlined, effective and SERIOUS story. I know everyone thinks Wes Craven was a film god but I’ve always thought he was overrated. As far as I’m concerned he made two good Scream films (the first two). The third was an absolute joke (it boggles my mind that Wes agreed to more than half the stuff in that film) and the third was MASSIVELY disappointing (Wes cut out SO much footage that could have helped the film) and characters like Gale and Dewey were shadows of their former selves. The only thing they got right was Sidney - everyone and everything else just felt...off.

If this falls into the right hands I could see this as a course correction and maybe we could reinvigorate the franchise. But I’ve been sorely disappointed before so I’m not going to hold out much hope.

What's the point without Craven involved? They could always create a new film series.

It wouldn't be much of a twist at all. People have been asking for this to happen since Scream 2.

Exactly what I was gonna say haha. I remember all those fan theories about Sidney being the killer when Scream 3 was in production.

Yes, and her first victim could be herself. She's gone so crazy with everyone she knows being dead or a serial killer she thinks she has to kill "Sidney" to be saved and stabs herself in the head... in the pre-credits sequence. The End. Thus sparing us another sequel of diminishing returns.

Personally, I think the only real way to do another Scream is to go beyond meta and make it about the making of Scream 5 with the cast playing themselves. Basically New Nightmare meets Scream.

[Show spoiler]And Neve Campbell is the opening victim. And Kevin Williamson is the killer trying to stop another Scream from being made after being burnt by the previous sequels. He kills Neve so they have to shut down the movie, but his killing causes the studio to decide to go the reboot route instead, produced by Jason Blum or Michael Bay.

They can continue the Scream franchise without Craven involved. They continued the Halloween franchise after Moustafa Akkad passed away.

If they do a remake, please make the killers different and not use the same killers as the original film.

I think a producer is different from a director who did every installment and is an icon of the genre. Besides they already continued the brand in a rebooted continuity with the TV series, I feel like it’s time for the movie franchise to end (there was a clear trilogy, as well as a follow up commenting on bringing back old horror franchises, I don’t see where else to go at this point).

I think Scream 5 should touch upon the industry today, and the political climate... Also the theme should be "connective universes". They've done sequels, trilogies, and remakes so far... the next trend is MCU style tropes.

I feel like cinematic universes were a trend of a few years ago, and for the most part studios have moved away from it. Marvel continues to have great success with it, but other than maybe the Conjuring universe (and that’s the only horror one, so less of a trope for Scream) everything seems to have dissapointed, with DC backtracking by putting fewer connections in films and doing outright standalone, non universe movies like Joker, and others like Universal’s Dark Universe being abruptly cancelled.

I don’t think they want to do a political satire after what happened with The Hunt, nor do I feel that fits the series either. I just struggle to see where there is to go and it already would have an uphill battle without Wes Craven.

..I'd see that. I mean, I'd probably hate it, but I'd see it.

It is purely motivated by the relative success of the new Halloween films = greed.

Always on the hunt for dead franchises to reanimate, these hacks are.
