I just setup a 203 on my E6, and jumped around for awhile checking out stuff. I had already watched the movie in HDR10 mode. Id say DV looks more natural, and still has pop, just not the pop of HDR10. Not that it is bad, I think the HDR10 pop could be unnatural at times due to the static nature, and the panel running as bright as it can.
I just used straight DV Dark mode, only thing I changed was Trumotion Edge Enhancement. Odd that OLED Light is only 50 though, in HDR Standard most calibrators go OLED 100 and Contrast 100, but maybe once again that is because the image in HDR10 is more dim, dunno. Uncharted territory. |

So PR finally got released in Japan on July 15th. And the box office went from 140.2 to 141 million. Man I hope we still get a sequel.

When this first came out VUDU didn't have it in UHD so I never redeemed my DC. However, earlier today when redeeming my latest batch of codes I figured I'd give this a try and VUDU has UHD now and the DC redeemed as such when following the instructions on the DC card.

Watched this one tonight. Although I have a Dolby Vision capable TV and receiver, my xbox one S can't quite handle all that. So for now, just good old HDR-10 for me.
I thought the movie was predictable and pretty blah. I don't think I'll ever watch again. The visuals were clean and digitally crisp. The HDR stood out in the opening scene which takes place in the past. The rest of the film seemed dark and never quite showcased all that I had hoped for. I'm getting an Oppo in a few weeks, so I will rewatch just for Dolby Vision. Your results my differ.... |

If anyone is looking for a good deal on this movie...
You can do Cartwheel 20% off at Target. The 4K version is $19.99 +tax. I was OK with that, because for some reason, I feel like seeing this movie. My kid might like it and I'm interested in the 4K DI and HDR. |

The first third (start) was super predictable, but with moments that showed promise. Second third was just tedious and annoying (false starts, training, and group therapy). The final third finally got moving, but the villain and backstory were basically phoned-in. If she was an original ranger from another planet (?), why was her name Rita? The whole pace of the movie was designed for kids with ADHD, nothing was explained. Later, I couldn't even get a good look at each kid's dino mech (wow, that sounds weird). The extended dark scenes (about 60% of the movie) also diminished the overall PQ. The 4K and HDR weren't really on display till the end, but even then choppy editing made it hard to see much and the story was so weak you didn't care anyway. Because we rented this from redbox on blu and while I was hoping that I would find some form of entertainment from this despite the critical reviews, sadly I was sorely mistaken. Just boring across the board, and this is coming from someone who loved the original series back in the early 90s (I was 7 years old and didn't know any better but come on, none of us did). I didn't connect with nor care about any of the characters and it felt like it was just going through the motions. The ending came flat in terms of action and the one redeeming quality I was hoping to see was Elizabeth Bank's Rita and sadly that wasn't nearly enough. I thought she was just ok while my wife couldn't stand her. In short, I'm glad I rented this first.

This one is pure silliness. More suited for kids I guess. The story felt rather dated too. Picture is average but certainly not among the better ones. I don't have DV player but can't imagine this being that much better. Has anyone done any direct comparison yet?

So this one isn't a massive upgrade over the standard blu then? I'm just toying which disc to get and after reading a lot of the comments it sounds like this is only a marginal improvement whereas Life (also out in the UK today) is a much bigger difference.

But Life was not a really good movie IMO.
