So I saw this on 35mm last night (seeing Army of Darkness on 35mm tonight).
Straight off the bat I asked them where they got the print from but apparently they are sworn to secrecy and my pressing yielded no results accept that it wasn't an original print, which was disappointing. It was the uncut English version with 4.0 audio though (sounded insane). The print itself was very tidy and looked like it had only been screened a handful of times at best. My guess is that TLE have made some new prints as the colours looked similar to my BD. It was good to see it on the big screen anyway, even if it wasn't an OG. |

Certainly, watching any movie with commercials isn't ideal, but it's a way to see it while you wait for the UHD release. I wasn't suggesting to watch the stream instead of buying the UHD, I was just trying to give a helpful tip to a fellow film lover. ![]() |

Not having a 4K player/TV and having already spent $50 on the steenbok, the only thing that makes me even remotely consider the possibility of getting this severely overpriced release is the slipcover art.
Which I must admit...is gorgeous. |

IMO sometimes horrible English dubbing can add to the charm of a movie, while other times I’ll go foreign track just to make the movie seem more classy. I’ve never had a problem with the English dubbing on suspiria and prefer it that way |

The German dubs are much weaker than the English ones. I watched Suspiria in Italian from the get go and did not know that Harper dubbed herself in English. I have to pay attention which actors say how much in this film to decide if I will ever seriously try the English dub. But English seems not to fit very well for this film in my mind... |

re. Language dubs. I don’t know if it’s an authoring issue on the discs or if it’s a deliberate stylistic choice for international dubs? But, sometimes I find myself watching the Italian dub simply because the score is at a higher pitch. It gives some movies an ultra feverish feeling that I can imagine has been scaled back on the English version because they believe we’re not as open to the histrionics? For example the dubs on Severin’s THE DEVIL’S HONEY and Arrow’s LISA AND THE DEVIL the dialogue is at the same volume on both dubs but then the score is at a much higher volume on the Italian dub.

So no matter which option you choose, you'll almost always still get actors dubbed into a different language. I generally choose which language based on a combination of which language most of the leads are natively speaking, and the setting of the film. Spaghetti Westerns for example I'll almost always watch in English because it doesn't make sense to have everybody speaking Italian in the American frontier. Also, it's far more preferable to hear the iconic voices of actors like Lee Van Cleef, Clint Eastwood and Charles Bronson than the Italian actors playing much smaller parts. Note: There are exceptions though, such as Django which I watch in Italian because the English dub is just awful and I prefer to hear Franco Nero's own voice. Italian crime movies on the other hand, most of which are set in cities such as Rome, Naples & Milan and usually star Italian leads such as Maurizio Merli, Franco Nero, Fabio Testi and Luc Merenda, are far better in Italian. The same goes with most gialli, which even though they are often set outside Italy and often feature at least one American or British star, are still very Eurocentric and the Italian dubs usually just work better and give the films a more credible, less schlocky atmosphere. |

But the on-set English for this (and any other English-only sets), sometimes the actor's or actors' English was not intelligible, badly inflected or pronounced, etc, and so HAD to be re-dubbed. |

I understand that, I wasn't claiming the dialogue was recorded on-set, I was referring to the filming process. Even if they WANTED to record and retain the dialogue, some of the dialogue from some actors would not have been well-delivered in English (or Italian) anyway. And HAD to be re-dubbed.
