I found this link a few weeks ago. Have not seen any changes to it yet. Maybe every title on Amazon JP gets a page like this and we don't normally see it because we're not searching with the Japanese name of the movie. Or maybe the pre-order has just been in the works for a while

I've seen 14,000,605 realities where we don't get this movie in 3D.

And only 1 where we do.

It only says Blu-Ray on the format. There's no indication of 3D.

With that selling so well, why should they bother releasing a 3D Blu-ray?
Which means disc sales will fall even further and we wont even have a high quality home format to own. The knock on effect being the slim chance of seeing some 3D releases will completely evaporate.

Im fed up of all this buoycott 4K talk. Im a 3D fan myself but surely we are film lovers first and foremost? We have high quality disc formats to enjoy at home with Atmos etc..

Why cut off our noses to spite our faces?

We need a rat to accidently sign the 3D distribution order.

4K discs don't sell that well and might already on their way out because of licensing fees and streaming. Once the blu-ray discs are gone we will only be left with DVDs which will still be released because they are cheap. I probably have 3 times as many 3D discs as I do 4K discs. But I would rather 4k discs were still available to buy rather than relying on streaming where you don't truly own your purchase.

Right, but my point is the preorder for this movie in Japan has been in the works for a long time. I'm just making a silly and completely out there wish that it's because they're busy adding the 3D. When they do list preorders for Venom 2 in Japan, it's definitely going to have at least a 4K option and there's currently no 4K specific 'coming soon' page on Amazon JP for that so it doesn't really mean anything as far as what the eventual formats will be.

I buy 4K movies for movies that I like that aren't in 3D. I've bought a few 4Ks for 3D movies that didn't get a 3D bluray, but with some of them (like this, No Time To Die, Free Guy, Jungle Cruise) I just felt too salty to buy the 4K. I think this one especially is in that category, as if Sony don't release a 3D for it they are literally breaking a perfect streak of 24 3D blurays in the Marvel series. I generally do my part to support home media, but they'll inevitably kill off disc media one way or another eventually, and me not wanting to reward them for refusing to release 3D art in a completely viable 3D home format isn't going to be the death knell for home media.

I agree boycotting 4K entirely is extreme though, not to mention robbing yourself of some amazing transfers.

I don't believe that the 4K sales are effecting their decision to not release on 3D. That being said, I personally don't buy many 4K discs anymore and usually only buy day 1 when it's 3D. So for me, it's just less to buy and more to save!

Haha yeah, the boring regular bluray (and even DVD ) is always guaranteed. The actual exciting formats like 3D (and sometimes even 4K) are the ones you have to worry about.

Rubbish.. they wouldnt be manufactured if they werent profitable. Last week they had a 11% share of the pie. They are just like Blu-ray in the sense that blockbusters sell very well. If anything, 4K is squeezing Blu-ray a little. Both for formats will be around for a good while yet.

Thanks to the 3DFA, so will 3D, even if we have very little choice.

Agreed, but if every HT enthusiast had that attitude? Well, it goes without saying.

Well luckily, we are such a small niche as 3D fans that it's not even worth them taking our money for 3D blurays

Yeah, and its rubbish when people slag the format off and say how its pointless and all that rubbish. We know very different. Which is why I believe we should t be doing the same to 4K.

Anyway, just how I feel.

Hopefully we get Spidey in 3D some way, if not? Its the 4K. Next best thing.

Without the IMAX scenes, 4K won't even be the next best thing.

No 3D = no sale!

No way Im missing out on owning films at home because they are not 3D. Thats counter productive to being a collector.

Of course I would prefer 3D though.

I just saw this again theatrically, this time in 2D. The ending fight is still way too dark even in 2D, and the high motion blurs the image harshly throughout the film whenever the camera has rapid/long distance panning.

For comparison, I watched some classic cinema and it does not have this blurring. Perhaps because it was literally impossible for them to move the camera so drastically then, though I suspect that the filmmakers of yore just had the sense to not do that, and they didn't have LCD technology which double-blurs all moving images.

This film in 2D seems like it is a case in point of the "it looks 3d in 2d" take that the flat film folk talk about, as the way objects are both positioned and lit in many scenes makes it obvious which objects are supposed to be in the fore, middle, and backgrounds. I saw this effect also described over on the flat forum here as the "green screen effect", as in 2D the actors and the CGI behind them often do not jibe, something that was largely solved IMO in 3d.

I'm curious what sort of results y'all who do home conversions will have, because they should really be popping if the conversion equipment can pick up on the separation already present.

What you are talking about is the 4K disc share of a decreasing market vs streaming and PVOD. What I am talking about is blu-ray sales as part of a declining market segment. Blu-ray licensing fees is another disincentive against even DVDs which is partly why DVDs are still nearly 60% of that shrinking pie.
