Not sure if this was posted already, but Space Jam.

That intro sequence with the music really gets me pumped to get let down with a terrible movie after it.

Story-wise, "The Social Network" had a fantastic opening.

Once Upon a Time in America - just that scene of the two mobsters searching for Noodles gives such a sense of dread and premonition, I would watch a whole movie of those two going around intimidating people

Casino - for a while, that's the kind of love I thought had BOOM St. Matthew's passion, great credit sequence ensues.
Another classic case of Casino outdoing Goodfellas; "as far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster" is great, but it has nothing on this.

Casino Royale - I have always loved how there are TWO great movies with Casino in the title, and both with AMAZING opening sequences. Love this one. Possibly the BEST Bond opening sequence ever. Certainly the best song. Possibly the best abstraction of the movie in the background of the song.

Wild at Heart - Nic Cage smashing a guy's head open. 'nuff said.

The Shining - I have long said that I would watch an entire 2 hour film of the Torrance's driving up to the hotel. I love how Jack is already unhinged and the air of tension and awkwardness is already hilariously palpable.

Snake Eyes - better than Touch of Evil's opening tracking shot (also great). Arguably not a better movie overall.

Aguirre, the Wrath of God has one of the most haunting openings ever. A perfect introduction into the jungle and the expedition.

Worst title text ever though, and apparently Kubrick spent weeks deciding on it. It looks like a default setting on Movie Maker from back in the early 2000s.

If only it was Comic Sans.

For Your Eyes Only - saw this in a Montreal theater in 81and thought the opening was fantastic.

Octopussy - I remember the crowd roaring with laughter and applause with Roger Moore's line - "Filler up, please"..

Its already been mentioned here, but I agree...
Lethal Weapon 2 - best opening ever... from the opening moment until the car chase is over, that sequence never lets up. The quips didn't fall flat, both Danny Glover and Mel Gibson looked like they were having a blast. This was back when movies were still fun. The theater crowd laughed all the way through the opening. Everytime I revisit this film I think about how fun it was seeing that in the theater.

My favorite opening scene will always be the creation of the rings and the subsequent battle underneath Mount Doom in The Fellowship of the Ring.

Star Wars was great. But Transformers The Movie (1986) was epic.

Honorable mention to Terminator 2.

Someone probably already mention this, but Mission Impossible 3. Great "in media res" opening that legitimately works because they don't lead you to it the whole movie, you just know it's coming. Although she totally should have died from Philip Seymour shooting her, and that's the actual end of the movie! (spoilers for a ten year old film)

I concur, a great opening. It says something about a movie that has you on the edge of your seat straight from the start.

Other chooses I'd like to include:

Lethal Weapon 4
Jurassic Park
Casino Royale
Blade
The Last Boy Scout

Mad Max Fury Road, the opening ten minutes are just spectacular. The whole movie is of course, but the opening really grabs you and it doesn't let go.

I agree but one of my favorites is The Living Daylights, Dalton doesn't say a word through the whole sequence until he lands on the boat with the hottie on it, great stuff and a great intro for a new Bond.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, the
[Show spoiler]Kobayashi Maru test, when the main cast start getting killed during the Klingon attack and the audience is like and then you hear Kirk's voice and Shatner walks in and you realize it was only a test

This is a very bold statement. That opening from Touch of Evil is known as the pinnacle of tracking shots...especially for its time.
