LOL, it should impress the ladies when you are fly fishing then.

But I do know people who will bust out a bunch of pushups before going out in Vegas.

I'm going to be lifting first when I get home because my wifes brother wants to goto the gym.

I'm debating about doing yoga today. It's just too damn long like you said. I skipped it last week. Not a fan of yoga @ all. All the workout are an hour except yoga...it makes no sense. I'm also not flexible at all so it's just bleh.

There’s an old saying, “Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like prince and
dinner like a pauper.”

Small to large is the opposite of how bodybuilders eat to get lean. If you want every calorie to be used most efficiently, reverse the order and eat a large breakfast, a small or moderate dinner, and avoid eating late at night. You are much less likely to store the early morning meal as fat because you’ve been fasting overnight. A heavy evening meal is much more likely to be stored as fat because you burn fewer calories at night and your metabolism is slowest while you are sleeping.

Did some serious lifting yesterday. I'm sore. After the lifting I did Kenpo X. Feels great.

Today is my off day. Going jogging Saturday morning then follow it up with Ab Ripper X.

Gotta stay focused!

You're definitely motivated. I'm gonna do legs and back today followed by the ab ripper. I haven't worked out in a few days because of work, so I'm itching to get back at it.

I've been really strict with myself about working out 6 days a week. I have to goto a wedding for my wife's friend in May and I want to look good there lol.

Also when I go on vacation next summer I want a 6 pack! It's a good realistic goal I know I can do.

I'm trying to mix it up more with different workouts. I don't have heavy enough freeweights yet so I worked out with my wifes brother at the gym in our apartment complex.

When I jog on Saturday I'm going to try and jog at least 2 miles straight. 3 if I can. The route is great because the first half of the 3.5 miles is a slight incline.

I'm probably going to take a break from working out today, have run on the treadmill 7 straight days, total of 23.5 miles, and my legs are sore today. I'll probably golf 9 holes tonight, but I'm going to be on a cart. I don't mind walking but none of the guys I play with will walk so I end up carting it.

I probably won't work out at all tomorrow because I'm going to the Nationwide Series race in Newton, Iowa. Not a big NASCAR fan but I got offered a free ticket and I've never been to a race so I decided to go. Probably won't be the most healthy eating and drinking day, but it's a special occasion and I'll make it up Sunday.

Same here...I missed 2 days of P90 but I made them up on a Sunday. So far I'm hanging in there. 6 days a week!

I don't think I'll ever get a 6 pack...I've tried for years. lol. 32/34 waist and no gut is fine with me.

It's very realistic. Don't give up
I mentioned above, try "Janda situps" for abs. Much more productive compared to most of the other abs routines, mainly because you're unable to cheat with your hip/psoas muscles to help yourself up.

And for overall body workout and fat burning, kettlebells rule. So far no gym junkie I've seen was able to do even 20 min swings (30 sec on 30 sec off) with 12kg kettlebell, even if they run few miles daily and lift pretty heavy.

Getting abs to show takes getting very lean. Every see that guy who is so skinny with a cig in his mouth drinking a beer and has a six pack. It's more of getting lean then actually doing sit ups. The sit ups part is bulking them up so they look bigger.

I can never lose that last bit a weight to get them to show up nicely. I usually sit at about 9% body fat. I like beer to much to sacrifice that last bit to have them show nice. BEER!!!

I have to try that janga sit up though!

This is so true. When I asked my coworker who has killer definition in her arms what she did she said just keep jogging and doing massive cardio to burn the fat away. Once you can see the muscles then work out on building them.

That "could" work, but it is the really long way.
For one, different people have different metabolism. Mine is really high and I have to struggle pretty hard to keep whatever muscle weight I gain. So, whatever cardio works for her might not work for you and vice versa.

Second, and more important, gaining muscle is the fastest way to shed fat. Any nutritionist, trainer or a doctor will tell you that. Muscle needs calories to feed on and that process goes on all day, at different rate of course.
For the same reason, heavy lifting and complex body workouts are much more effective in reducing fat percentage than simple cardio.
Cardio fat burning works mostly during the running or whatever the variation of it. However, after heavy lifting the process goes on for few hours.
It's just easier for most of the people to run 20 min or 1 hour than hit the free weights, or alternatively they do not want to gain muscle mass, which is still different than gaining muscle volume.

That's more than enough to get pretty good abs definition.

Try it You won't regret. If you do them in the correct form(no jerking up, no using hands to lift your head, same tempo, gluts/hamstrings contracted hard) chances are you'll manage only 4-5 reps in the beginning. But they're that much more effective because you can't cheat with other muscles.
A lot of beginners can't do even one rep in a good form, but you can use a cord to curl up and then using your abs come down slowly.

And....the fat that we have on our bellies, the sub-q fat, is easier to burn than the fat that has accumulated around our internal organs over the years, and that is the fat that is really bad for us. Sucks, I know.

Do you guys bonk during your workouts? Every now and again I get about 3/4 of the way through a P90 routine and just run out of gas. Anybody have any advice?

Yeah you have to learn your body type. I am more endo-mesomorph so I can gain muscle but I have to struggle with gaining fat also. Lifting alone is not enough for me. I must do all three, eating clean, cardio, and lifting. That is be fastest way I can burn fat only. The key to anything is you must learn you. No two people are the same, and no single workout will give the same results to everyone.

But the same is true for most. Calories in and Calories out is how you burn body fat.

Very true. During lifting you are burning mostly sugar. Cardio you are actually burning fat at that moment.

I am confused on this statement? Can you please explain the difference?

Just seem to always have the tiny layer that doesn't allow them to pop out and say "How you doin!"

I was referring to strength vs. volume gain. I.e. training the muscle to gain strength and mass vs. muscle spinning with low weights which gains more sugar/water than the actual muscle mass. But because water and sugar have much bigger volume the muscle appears a lot bigger

Thanks I never understood it technically like this. I knew there was strength training vs body building. Which what I am doing now the volume body building type. I am done strength training since I no longer play football. Thanks for explaining that.

I know most of it is mental but what do you guys recommend for overcoming "The Wall" when jogging?

I know I can push myself and jog half of the 3.5 mile route I take. I just can't get myself to do it.

Similar to my bonking question a few posts back. I'd like some advice on this as well. I'm guessing it has a lot to do with diet and hydration....but IDK.

That's a tough one. Maybe instead of running for distance...keep it short. Do hills a few times a night. Sprints....Go to the track and run 200 meters as fast as you can... Then maybe after a week of switching it up you can get past your wall.

On a side note to my diet...I'm finally in the teens but stuck @ 219.

I weighed in at 167lbs Sunday after my jog. I think I need to work on my form and that might help me jog farther.

I'm lifting weigths today and then hitting the elliptical after that. I might do Kenpo X also!
