YOU may think a set is perfect...but your opinion matters no more or no less than any other consumer. And there are plenty of people out there who will be just fine and dandy with the Superman box set, regardless of your opinion.
If you're talking about technical issues like DNR and such, nobody's going to agree on that. I'm talking about the representation of the original film on a fundamental level.

Literally WB could say "we messed up" and delay the release and this guy would still say it's no big deal and the set, as is, is actually just fine.

And my point stands - The theatrical experience often varies wildly from theater to theater.
That reminds me, I once saw Superman II with Ilya Salkind in attendance, and the center and left channels were swapped for the entire movie. Because I know how this film should sound, I caught it immediately and was bothered the whole time. This was a mistake at the screening though and is not indicative of how the film should sound. It didn't have any pitch problems though, like the new UHD does.

So what are the chances that the new future 4k remaster will based on the the 2000 SE cut (expanded edition) instead of the theatrical now...?

Odds on I'd say. That's not an oblique reference to any implied knowledge, I know nothing, but it's so weird that the SE cut has been completely ignored for this set and with capedwonder dude's assertion that Warners *have* been working on a new 4K transfer for STM then what could it be if not the SE? I hope it happens.

If this keeps happening and people keep buying nothing will change and WB will keep winging it!
Has this been confirmed or is it wishful thinking?

The UHD's of Superman II to IV do not have cover art for the UK discs. All of these UHD discs have a solid bright red background on them. The regular 1080p Blu-rays have the solid blue background as per usual.

US needs to have these as stand alone releases.

“Either way, Superman: The Movie is gorgeous in 4K and entirely faithful to Richard Donner’s beloved original film. Whichever audio version you choose, this Ultra HD experience is highly recommended.”

This will lead to a meltdown for some on this forum.

From my experience, there are at least portions of the video presentation that leave something to be desired in HDR and color grading. What stands out to me is the grayish rather than white appearance of the Kryptonian landscape exteriors in the opening shots, and the other-worldly coloring of the Kryptonian Council scene. I can't take these as "entirely faithful to Richard Donner’s beloved original film." I've enjoyed The Digital Bits over the years, but in more recent years I've found myself strongly questioning and disagreeing with a few of Bill Hunt's comments.

I got the set and are thinking of getting the UK standalone release of the first movie for the extended cut.

Are the 4K transfer in the boxset the same as the standalone except for the extended BD?

The extended cut isn't on the 4k disc

Yea, the brightness levels are off pretty much throughout the entire film.

Not a big fan of Superman but, I do want to buy the first one since it's the only one I enjoyed originally when I watched it in the theatre. It was a big deal then...the improvement in special effects on how they could make him look like he's really flying...yea I know, but it was the late 70s.

I've got to go with the version that has the 5.1 audio track and after all, it also has a Atmos track.

I take it that the video restoration that was done with that version (the one that has the 5.1 audio track) is the same source used for the first Superman movie in the new box set?

Hey guys-- I may have asked the question before but I don't remember about the answer (sorry). Do we know if the Australian UHD of Superman: The Movie kept the 5.1 70mm mix? If so I would be tempted to import it but I'd rather be sure. Thx

It does have a 5.1 Dolby Digital mix https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Super...lu-ray/216352/ but I do not know if it's the same mix your asking about.

I think it is, but I was more wondering as the US and UK editions have been already replaced by the new authoring with the DTS MA lesser stereo mix.
