If this keeps happening and people keep buying nothing will change and WB will keep winging it!
Life will be much more enjoyable for you once you realize that none of this is worth taking so seriously. Yes, there are mistakes…but yes, in the grand scheme of things, they are minor. Most consumers will likely agree that the advantages this set offers up far outweigh the “issues” that it has - And they will be correct.

General debate and review of technical quirks and issues is healthy; over-the-top hysteria is not.

Why should we accept mistakes on the greatest home video format when previous releases didn't have them? Shouldn't we expect that Dave level of competence?

This. It's not a pitch shift for the whole track, it's like someone took a pencil and stretched the tape for a second. I posted an audio recording of it.

What's worse is that the stereo track doesn't have this error.

If I'm paying $130 for something, it damn well better be perfect.

Put it this way - why should the movie be perfect in the theater, but not perfect on home video?

The 5.1 on the Blu-ray doesn't have it either.

SUPERMAN being shown on Turner Classic movies tonight! Based on the 2.5 hour time slot, presumably the theatrical cut. But which soundtrack? (Probably the Special Extra Whooshes Edition is my guess) And which color grading? Who knows, maybe they'll unspool some super-rare variation no one has ever seen before!

Followed by BATMAN (1989)!! With a double feature like that, I'll be giving my 4K hardware a rest tonight. I know the broadcasts won't be as good as my discs, but, dammit, they're "on TV" and I cannot resist!

I can't believe this combination never occurred to me. Well, I'm fixing that soon.

Actually I remember a drive in theatre back east did this double feature during covid.

It would make a great double feature in theatres. something like fathom events or something.

Is it OK to want certain features to be retained or to discuss technical shortcomings? Yes, of course. Is it healthy to go over the top with the hyperbolics if it doesn’t happen? No.

Over the top hysteria! Lol. You just won’t leave it will you so it makes me think you’ve got more of an issue about all this than me!

Look I don’t let things like this rule my life as you seem to think. I’m quite happy with life and enjoy it but thanks for your concern! I’m just airing my opinion like you have and others. I have my opinion, you have yours which I respect by the way. I just don’t agree with it. I’m not that cut up by it as you seem to think to be honest. I just have a difference of opinion which is healthy not hysteria by the way. We’ve both said our piece so let’s leave it there, no point in going round in circles. If you’ve bought the boxset I genuinely hope you enjoy it with all its flaws, minor or not!

Have a good day.

The odds of you getting a perfect release on a set like this are zero. There is no way that Warner Brothers could put a product out that everybody would agree is “perfect.”

Also…These films were never “perfect” in the theater, either. Visual and audio systems and equipment vary wildly from theater to theater and glitches show up all of the time. Because of this, the experience varies from screen to screen.

Again, I’m not referring to people who are simply having good-natured debate - I’m talking about the posters on this topic and others who suggest moronic things, such as the entire release is trash as a result.

You have a good day as well.

... watching this now.. definitely the theatrical cut. The color timing actually looks quite good, very lush. The sound is the remix I believe. Anyway with Batman '89 on next, this is quite the 100th Warner celebration on TCM tonight. Very cool indeed.

Definitely the remixed sound. This must set the record for "longest end credits sequence ever shown on TCM!" It slipped my mind that host Ben Mankiewicz is related to Creative Consultant Tom Mankiewicz.

This is a tired excuse that never holds up. This isn't a matter of exhibition quality but issues with the underlying masters.

As most of the issues are with the Super-sequels, I won't bog down this thread with those.

They've certainly done better in the past. They've done some great work restoring older titles, particularly three-strip technicolor. They've also taken measures to correct issues in the past. WB sent me a replacement BD for a title that had mistakenly been released without an audio track in a specific format that had been advertised. It was an issue that the vast majority of purchasers probably weren't concerned about, if they were even aware at all.

I guarantee that you don't have a single set that EVERBODY on the planet agrees is "perfect."

And that's my point.

YOU may think a set is perfect...but your opinion matters no more or no less than any other consumer. And there are plenty of people out there who will be just fine and dandy with the Superman box set, regardless of your opinion.

He's the one who brought up "exhibition quality."

And my point stands - The theatrical experience often varies wildly from theater to theater.
