That's the conclusion I came to after watching 'Guardians'. I think many Marvel fans love how different it was, how it wasn't your normal origin film, and that these were not your normal characters with typical origin storylines. 'Guardians' was creative enough to start something new, but for me, it was too creative, enough to be handled by a director that seemed to rush every scene, and melt every moment with music that saturated the films characters and emotional state of being, frame after frame. I believe they used various soundtracks throughout the film a little excessively, and not under a brief artistic setting that polished the scene with all of it's drama unfolding.
By the end of the film, I wished that someone else had control over this film. I believe that the films outline and structure were there, I just disagree with how it was directed and handled (if that makes any since to anyone). Almost the same reasons I came to for Iron Man 3, but the opposite. After viewing IM3, I believed that Shane Black & Co. had the effort and directorial presence in handling such a film, I just think the story wasn't strong enough or written to be as creatively sound as many of the other Marvel movies that came before it.
Surprisingly, I believe if there is one film from Phase II that is sticking to my cinematic enjoyment pegboard, now that Phase II has all been said (prior to The Avengers: Age of Ultron) my favorite Phase II film will more likely be Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Which is why, for that reason, I wasn't taken by 'Guardians' as much as the next fan. "Ronan the Accuser" was just as much of a let down, amongst the villainous ranks as was Malekith was, for many, in Thor: The Dark World. In fact, they both seemed to resemble each other, in attitude, character, and style (not to be confused with looks). I briefly wondered why isn't Thanos going after these heroes of ours himself, if he wants "the job done right?" Well, even though we all want to see him in action, as much as the next fan, Thanos has minions under him that are hired or told to do his bidding, until the time comes where he has no other choices but to do the job himself. I just don't see the "Ah-ness" in some of these Marvel films to say the least (Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, Iron Man 3, Thor :The Dark World, and Guardians of the Galaxy). If there is one film, from that list, that didn't disappoint as much as the next one, it would be Thor: The Dark World. I believe that Alan Taylor did the best he could with what was given to him. I believed that the director was just as strong as the story being told, I just wished for a stronger story, and yet, this is why I felt quite the opposite with Guardians of the Galaxy
