With LotR, I bought the TE BDs on release day, then sold them and put the money towards the EE when they were released, which is what I'll be doing with The Hobbit movies too. As big of a Tolkien fan as I am, there's no way I'm waiting eight months to have them in my collection, and I paid $19 for this one and can probably sell it for about $9, so it's like an eight month rental for $10.

If the LotR EE is any indication, the added footage will definitely be worth it.

Cool!

Sounds like the EE is the one to own! I think I'll wait for the EE and rent the TE. I'm a fan of LotR, but in 8 months, I'd probably only watch The Hobbit once.

Same here. I kind of enjoyed this new movie, didn't Love it tho', so one would think Additional footage should enhance it, perhaps...

Probably not a bad plan then. I've already watched it three times.

I saw it in an Imax theater in 3D 48fps, and didn't care for the 3D or 48fps and would've rated the movie itself about 7/10, but after watching it at home several times, I've really started to love it.

I just picked this up at a pawn shop brand new still sealed for $4.99!

I've never seen it before. I didn't realize until I got home that it's almost 4 hours long! Better get started on it soon I guess.

I also picked this up today too:

I was amazed at the picture quality for a movie from 1962. The audio was decent enough I guess for such an old movie. I really enjoyed the movie, but after reading for years that it is the best movie ever made, that's a whole lot to live up to.

Hadn't seen Poltergeist in years and really enjoyed it. I watched The Hobbit last Tuesday and then again on Wednesday, and I never do that. I just really enjoyed it a lot. Much more than I did at the theater. I also watched it again with a friend on Thurday, but I was pretty buzzed that time.

I never fall asleep while using my pj. If I get a little tired, I'll just get up and do some jumping-jacks and splash some cold water on my face. If I'm feeling pretty tired beforehand, I just don't turn my pj on that night.

Tremendous movie.

I, of course, picked up the Super Mondo Extravagant Deluxe Edition
[Show spoiler](BUT, for a Great price )
.

I've seen the movie before (DVD version), & really need to dive into this (they did some serious restoration work on it) one as well.

Oh no! I'd like to re-buy that one, but I'm almost tempted to get the boxset, even though most of the sequels suck.

I had never seen it before and thought the movie was pretty good, but for a movie from 1962 the video was amazing. The sand dunes impressed me the most.

Hi MM.

A lot of people have complained that The Hobbit is too long and drawn out and boring, but I love it. I almost prefer the "boring" scenes to the action scenes. I will be getting the EE on day one.

Frownland - Don Van Vliet (Captain Beefheart)

My smile is stuck
I cannot go back t' yer frownland

My spirit's made up of the ocean
And the sky 'n the sun 'n the moon
'N all my eye can see

I cannot go back to yer land of gloom

Where black jagged shadows

Remind me of the comin' of yer doom

I want my own land

Take my hand 'n come with me

It's not too late for you

It is not too late for me

To find my homeland

Where man can stand by another man

Without an ego flyin'

With no man lyin'

'N no one dyin' by an earthly hand

Let the devils burn 'n the beggar learn

'N the little girls that live in those old worlds

Take my kind hand

My smile is stuck

I cannot go back t' yer frownland

I cannot go back t' yer frownland

[Show spoiler]Edit: A squid eating dough in a polyethylene bag is fast and bulbous.

And just like that, I bid you good night.

How's it going buddy? Hope all has been well for ya. I haven't really been on in awhile and not sure how everyone is doing.

You guys talked about getting the EE of The Hobbit, I'm wondering how long that version will be.

I really enjoyed watching it, and it didn't seem that long to me, I just think the beginning with showing 60years later (with E. Woods) was a little bit of a waste of time.

What's up Hamp? I haven't been around here much myself lately. I've been working way too much.

I didn't think The Hobbit was slow at all, and if anything, I liked the "slower" parts more than the action scenes. I will be getting the EE on day one.

Those are by far my two favorites too, after the original.

Thanks Russ.

That's my Tyrion with his face all cut up avatar in anticipation of season 3 of Game of Thrones. Don't worry, I play around with my avatar from time to time, but I always revert back to the frog.

Looking forward to seeing The Hobbit now. I like a slow pace. Prefer Fellowship to the other 2; got bored after so many battles.

It's hard to live up to the hype isn't it Check out Great expectations from the same director if you haven't seen it.It's so old, that you can pick up the criterion DVD if that is cheaper than the BD.That is the best movie evah IMO

It was shot on 70mm,so it'll probably look better on 4K screens.Hows things down your neck of the woods?
