It's not because some people don't like our taste in movies, that will make it bad.
The movie is great (not the best ever), but i love it too, and no one will change my mind!!

Fargo is superb in my opinion, but I enjoy most of the Coen Brothers' work. Fargo and The Big Lebowski are my two favorites, though. I have not yet seen A Serious Man, The Hudsucker Proxy, The Man Who Wasn't There, Intolerable Cruelty, or The Ladykillers.

Fargo does an excellent job of combining dark crime drama elements with quirky humor. It is very well written and presents multiple memorable characters, which I think are the key components of any great film. Furthermore, the film has a very interesting structure with the way it shifts protagonists.

I am a huge fan of blind-buying films, especially when you consider how much you would normally pay to see a new movie at the cinema. I think Fargo can be had for fairly cheap so I would recommend it, even if you haven't seen it yet. I currently own the film on DVD, and I am trying not to double-dip yet with BD, because there are many films I do not have any version of which I still want on Blu-ray. That is the only reason I don't have Fargo on BD.

As for Burn after Reading: I found it to be a fun, comical film that was rather enjoyable, but definitely not on the same level as Fargo, The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, or Blood Simple. I found it very funny because it's the kind of film that can make one laugh without necessarily having any jokes or gags. Just vintage Coen Brothers-esque situations and misunderstandings leading to events spiraling out of control. In addition, I found the dark, tense, over-the-top music when paired some of the ordinary situations in the film (such as Clooney jogging or buying stuff at the hardware store), to be hilarious. The Coen's definitely had fun while making Burn after Reading. I recommend you see that as well.

I love this movie because of the characters. The story and all is great but it's the actors/characters that really drives it. And a lot of funny dialogue and crazy sh1t that goes on too ta boot.

It's the Coen Brother's best film. I found No Country For Old Men to be a spiritual remake to Fargo, and yes I think No Country is more of a dark comdey like Fargo than a serious crime drama. It's perfectly paced, yet disturbingly funny, at times it satirizes the subject matter and the whole thing is a joke. That's what I like about the Coen Brother's Movies, they are jokes that people take seriously.

Isn't it the point that the audience makes it own opinion about the movie?

Well then it is a good thing we had this little chat. Oh Brother is a great movie, it has great music in it, but it isn't a musical.

And I agree with the post above that Fargo is somewhere between Lebowski and No Country on the humor-seriousness scale.

Fargo is a great movie. It's a masterpiece in my eyes, along with No Country for Old Men.

I enjoyed Burn After Reading as well. It's a seemingly important movie about nothing and no one. It never takes itself too serious yet it has a somewhat serious tone.

i LOOOOVE this film, and just because of accents or violence.

look at the cinematography for example:
-a huge zoom out shot at the beginning of a car driving through the snow. the car is about the size of a bottle cap on my DLP. genius.
-amazing shot of marge leaving one morning to go to work: you can see her husband on left side of shot, and see her on right side go out the door and try and start the car...all in the same shot...then she comes back in, and you see the husband sitting down on left side of shot get up saying "yokay margee?" . just masterful shooting

My very FIRST Blu Ray ! Which was an upgrade from the DVD. hOURS BEFORE, MY SON HAD CALLED FROM sAM'S..." Dad, found a Samsung Blu player for $ 150.00 ! You want it and we can work out the cash later ? "
So then, when we needed the optical cable for the necessary connection to my 5.1 system, we went to Best Buy. Of course, I HAD to pick out my first Blu title, and after about 45 min. of very picky looking, I saw one of my Coen Collection. So even though my original intent was 1.) EASY RIDER & 2.) The Tom Petty/Heartbreakers Audio-only Blu...FARGO broke my cherry.

I didnt like Fargo much, too slow of pacing.

Seems like nothing happens the whole movie.

I sold my copy.

I'm not saying everyone should love one movie or another, but there are certain movies like this, or Raising Arizona, that I find hysterical due to the personalities of the characters, and the strange predicaments they find themselves in...... I consider these "witty" comedies, and if your not into them, and like genitalia and flatuance jokes instead, then to each his own (I enjoy all types of humor..... dumb comedy, witty, dark, physical, slapstick etc....)

Comedy is by far the least represented genre in my collection (which my wife reminds me of often) because comedies with staying-power (rewatchability) are far less common than good dramas, or thrillers, etc. (for me at least)
