Sold for $1300!!! Sorry guy who bought that?!! Even after I left bad feedback he still bought it? The seller didn't even protest the feedback? Well, he got more $ than I would have given him so???

I've been an ebay seller since '99 and I don't even allow people to mail money orders or checks in. I accept paypal only. Its guaranteed protection for the buyer. I occasionally buy on ebay and I would never buy from someone who doesn't accept paypal. Checks and money orders offer a little protection, but its still a hassle to get your money back if there are problems. Bank wires are a total no-no because there is absolutely no recourse. I'm glad you scrutinized this transaction thoroughly before sending the money, because its definitely a scam.

Wire transfer....

I'll never do that.

(Well... sometimes to or from family members but not to the ebay scammers.)

Usually Wire Transfer is all you need to know...

Someone's about to have a real bad day...

It's unfortunate that eBay has really been invaded by scammers. Fortunately, their M.O. is fairly consistent so that the scam deals can be avoided:
  1. typically higher priced electronics or luxury goods that are being sold at a price "too good to be true" from a seller in an Eastern European country who wants payment by wire or Western Union only.
  2. pictures of merchandise that are generic or stolen from another site/auction.
  3. a lot of the time, they hack an older account that has not been used in a while but has decent feedback so that it gives the buyer an illusion of safety-- that the seller has done some honest deals in the past.

This guy fits the description perfectly-- no question this is a scam. Good luck finding your projector mnfish-- keep an eye on AVS classified, Audiogon, and Videogon-- good deals will frequently pop up there...

Just got this from ebay:

"Hello

We're writing to let you know that the listing for the following item you bid on has been removed:

160336833272 - Sony VPL-HW10 Review!

We removed the listing and canceled your bid because it appears that the seller's account was used by someone without the seller's permission. The seller's trading privileges might be temporarily suspended while we investigate. Because of privacy concerns, we can't share more details.

We canceled this listing to protect you and the member whose account was used without permission. Here are immediate steps you can take while we investigate:"

Thanx for all the help in this. I hope that the other guy that won the second auction didn't get duped as well. This is why this site is great!!
