$650 for the 03? That is a pretty good deal for a brick-&-mortar store. A VERY good deal, actually! Now if it was the 05, then it would be hotter than hot!
That said, you would not be dissatisfied with the 03. |

The 05 was $999 when the 07 was $1399. Now the 07 is $1199 for this week only.

The OP is coming from a Yamaha 663 receiver, so he's already used to the amber look. |

Aren't you tires of the stereotypical BS when it comes to receivers???How about something totally DIFFERENT! Have you heard of Sherwood Newcastle??? FYI, they have been manufacturing receivers for Denon for years that tells you something. And yes they're just as good and generally sound better than Denon and onkyo.
http://www.sherwoodusa.com/prod_r872.html# You can buy them at www.Axiomaudio.com Edit here's a review Last edited by rded; 05-27-2009 at 03:40 AM. |

The only reason I have the Pioneer is because I have an elite television and I want Pioneer on Pioneer. I will co-sign for the Denon, they are great receivers and you will not be disappointed, plus the Denon has a little more bells and whistles than the Pioneer.. |

Who needs a 75-pound receiver? I do, now that I've lived with two Denon AVR-5308CI. Its sound is superb, its video processing is state-of-the-art, and it offers access to just about any source I could dream of. Add to that it's phenomenal flexibility, which meant that it not only did everything I needed, it did everything I could think of.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Yes, it is big, heavy, complicated, and, at MSRP $5,500.00, now to $3,699.99 but expensive, however those are features more than bugs. Big and heavy because it's so well-built, complicated because it does everything, and expensive because no corners were cut. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Do I recommend it? Unreservedly and enthusiastically. One box to rule them all, indeed. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Superb sound from 2-channel to 7.1 sources Extremely flexible configuration Every input imaginable (7 HDMI!) LAN compatible ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I currently own a VSX-94TXH and a VSX-92TXH which I use in two different rooms. Previously I owned a Lexicon DC-1 which I ran through 4 Hafler XL-280's which had 200 watts per channel. It was a very high end system at the time and one of the first 7.1 pre-pro's (original MSRP for the DC-1 was $5000). When I moved I had to downsize and went with Pioneer Elite. I am extremely happy with my Elite's, the first one I bought was the 94 and I auditioned it up against the 3808 and the 4308 (the 4308 has a $2699 MSRP) I felt the VSX-94TXH blew both Denons away on a head to head audio shoot out. The 94 was more musical and robust sounding than both of the Denon's. The 3808 was very weak and thin in comparison, the 4308 was closer, but the 94 had a much more impressive dynamic range.
I was totally willing to spend more money on the 4308, (which did have a few more features) however I went for the more impressive sounding of the three receivers, and was so impressed I purchased the 92 recently for my home office. |

I just upgraded to a Denon 2808CI from a Pioneer Elite VSX-24tx last year. Granted the Pioneer Elite served me well for many years. The Denon sounds fantastic and I have no yearning to upgrade! Granted, the PioElite had no HDMi and going from Optical (DD/DTS) to HDMI (TruHd/DTS-MA) probably has more to do witht he increase in sound quality than going from Pioneer Elite -> Denon.
I think you will be happy either way! Enjoy it! As a side note, I do prefer the color of the LED panel and controls on my Denon better than the Pioneer Elite Amber colored LED's |
