BD arrived last week and found time to watch it yesterday. Not as impactful as my (much) younger years but still quite enjoyable.
Watching it on a large screen TV was a treat. My last watch was, I think, on a 1980s movie; cannot remember the screen size (17"?) but it had 'clicky' channel dials on the TV without a remote control. Isabelle Adjani... WOW! Helena (Isabelle's character) telling all the guests at the dinner party to FU is the greatest moment. |

I know what you mean but Nikita had its moments. For Cinema du Look I go to the granddady of them all, Diva. Never get bored of that movie. And Mauvais Sang may have literary pretensions but Carax had the sense to fill his movie with a truckload of gorgeous close-ups of two happening actresses firing on all cylinders.

I like Subway, but think that The Big Blue, Nikita, Leon, and Angel-A are all superior films.
Since those, I’ve been very disappointed with the films he’s directed (*) with the exception of Valerian, which is for me about 75% successful artistically (although a box office bomb, of course). (*) I’ve appreciated a lot of the popcorn entertainment that he’s written and produced, though, especially The Transporter and Taxi series, Lockout, Banlieue 13 and Taken. |

Yes. The Fifth Element is visually stunning, but I found a lot of it bland, including the story and most of the characters.
Valerian was visually stunning too, and as a fan of the comics I liked seeing it come to life. That said, a lot of what didn't work for me came because I was familiar with the characters. I thought Laureline was unrecognisable to the comic version: a scowling bore who used her fists rather than wits. Valerian himself was a lot truer to the original. I thought it was weird that the Shingouz and Point Central were renamed, but they expanded on the comic story very well and added new interesting things like the inter dimensional market. And the opening 'Space Oddity" montage is terrific. Some characters and situations are flat, but overall I liked it a lot. |

Much appreciated - not sure how I missed this but indeed, Region A B and C that bodes well. Interesting its an older release. I might look into the Besson bundles and see if the others also share multi-region and multi-lang subs.
