Although I believe you are correct in reguards to HDMI, TrueHD can still be sent out through the analog outputs with a firmware upgrade.

Are the Sony players 300 and 301 exactly the same? Got my 301 at Costco.

The 301 comes with an HDMI cable, otherwise they are the same.
