This shouldn't even be a discussion, especially if you are a fan, Blu-ray all the way.

To me they look good on a 1080 upconvert system...so I know I have to have the entire collection in Blu-Ray.

You know the soundtrack will be world's better on Blu Ray then that on the regular DVD.
In fact I have been starting one disc at a time.

I just got the Order of the Phoenix on Blu Ray.So next in line will either be the Sorcerors Stone or the Goblet of Fire.

I could understand if it was an OK movie but when its a set like Harry Potter it can never be done justice without having the entire collection in Blu-Ray.

And I am sure you probably have a nephew, niece,or kid around the neighborhood that would be Very Greatful to have the Harry Potter set on Regular DVD to help them start their own collection and in time start them thinking of getting a home theater'

One problem with this set as it is from Amazon.fr, the extras have been dubbed or have the french subs hard coded to the extras. Extras are also in PAL so they are NOT region free like the movies.

Getting on topic, buy both if you are a completionest, if not, buy blu.

The HP movies offer a clear upgrade in PQ and AQ on Blu (the first one the least, and the quality steadily increases through the movies). As such, I would definitely go with Blu for your next purchase.

I would buy this no matter what, me and my girlfriend are huge Harry Potter fans.

Edit: Does someone have a link for the set. I searched Amazon.fr, but couldn't find it.

That's odd...they took the picture down.

From what I hear, the French announce things really early. I doubt we'll get that set in the US but you can't rule it out. I haven't even watched the movies...but that set is just too cool to pass up lol.

Keep in mind that that price in US dollars is close to $300.

Definitely upgrade to blu! The Potter films look really good in HD (particularly OOTP). I bought the Limited Edition trunk that was released a few years back (which holds films 1-5) and there's space to fit the remaining movies. Plus it comes with fan items such as bookmarks/cards/DVD game and an extra disc of extras.

How can you say that you doubt we'll get the castle set in the US? This is Warner we're talking about....king of the double, triple and quadruple dips. Just sayin.

I think it is highly unlikely. I'm not trying to argue with you but given Warner's love for "Collector's Sets" I'd almost guarantee this will be announced for a US release sometime after Half Blood Prince hits the theaters.

As cool as the castle is I won't be getting it. I replaced my dvds of the first 4 HP films with the HD-DVD 1-5 giftset only to sell that and buy the stand alone versions on blu. So I won't be buying them again any time soon. Now if they do something like this for LOTR extended editions I will be all over it.

I also have the standards 1-5 and that school box or whatever it is. But since I got a HDTV for Christmas and a BD player this past February, it's a no brainer. Now I have to replace the ones I already have standard and replace them with BD. I don't really care about having a super box set collection when it's all over. (who wants to wait that long anyways?) I rather watch them now and buy them as they come along. Not wait 3 years until they're all released together. I just won Socerer's Stone on eBay then I find Warner is re-releasing them in time for the new movie.

I would get the blus for the movies, but keep the DVDs, as most of theextras are really just the same as an upconverted DVD. Plus, there are things that did not make the transition(Not just games, but the Timeline, tours, and such).
