Yeah, I wish they would show that plot point in the trailers though, it seems like a pretty boring superhero spoof without that in. That footage has finally sold the movie to me though.

The footage kind of sold me but I wish they wouldn't have shown Jonah Hill's character
[Show spoiler]turning into a superhero
. The joke about the baby seal boots still makes me laugh, although I prefer the joke about the killer spider.

Regardless of Kung Fu Panda and what I've heard about How To Train Your Dragon, I'm still cautious of Dreamworks.

And I know it's trying to be some parody of SDCC cosplay, but, uh, Will?
Ben Stiller "Avatar" Rule: Satirically making a comic-persona fool of yourself in public only successfully manages to be funny if we LIKE you.
Otherwise, we're just sittin' back and gawking at traffic accidents.

Trust me, we're NEVER going to see that in the TV ads or trailers. EVER. (Or at least not until the disk release.)
Not because it's "too dark", but because DW is going all out to convince us that there are two characters for the entire movie, because the prospect of there being only the main one...didn't catch on as well as hoped.
Brad Pitt may not be in the movie as long as publicity would have you believe, but they're taking no chances and showing every danged second of whatever scenes he appears in.

(Oh, and the girl, too, in the hopes we'll think it's "Monsters vs. Aliens" again, and gush about what an empowered role model in animation she is.)

I saw this at an advanced screening yesterday morning.

Wow I did not expect it to be that good. Not one fault I can think of besides showing a little to much in trailer 2. It puts Despicible Me to shame. Will Ferell did amazing voice work. I liked it better than one of my favorite movies this year, How To Train Your Dragon. My whole theater loved it and clapped and cheered at the end. The film was hilarious and didn't have stupid humor, it was smart.

One thing worth noting, this is by far the best use of 3D I have ever seen at the movies. They used it perfectly. It popped out a lot, but not to silly. The 3D just went with the movie. This is one of the few movies I would say you have to watch it in 3D. It's a much. It made the experience even better.

Bravo Megamind. Bravo. 9/10

Mediocre movie I thought.

Most of the jokes were not funny and most of the funnier stuff was in the trailers. "Baby seal leather boots" made me laugh. However there just isn't much too this movie. Its stunningly mediocre across the board.

Id give it a C+

My review from the review discussion thread:
Quote:
I saw Megamind earlier tonight. Very funny and enjoyable! I'd level it with Monsters vs. Aliens, maybe better. Not exactly memorable, but surely worth a watch nonetheless. The script was a bit dry sometimes but some golden jokes made up for it big time. One particular running gag had me laughing so hysterically every time it came up, my gf got embarrassed. I just couldn't stop laughing at one point. I may buy it on blu-ray for that joke alone. It had a number of throwback references throughout the film, including one to Donkey Kong. Random cast--didn't even realize Brad Pitt was in it until the end credits, but they all did a great job. Very random soundtrack (AC/DC, Guns 'n Roses, Ozzy Osbourne... which movie are we talking about?) which gets a bit lame but some song choices are bearable for the sake of its family-friendly vibe (i.e. Michael Jackson's "Bad"). Megamind is not incredibly original but it is certainly clever enough to please adult audiences. Very happy we picked this over Due Date.

I was worried about how this movie would turn out. I didn't want something really jokey without a plot I could care about. I ended up enjoying it a lot. The story was clever and Megamind was an interesting villain. I recommend seeing it and in 3D (if you like 3D, it has a lot of depth).
