Nonsense. The def techs and Polk speaker bars are better sounding IMO than yamaha but to each is their own. I'd recommend Polk speaker bars. I think newegg has them reasonably priced.

See, IMO that negates 80% of the reason to go with a sound bar. TV on the wall...sound bar under it. Done.

The annoying part about that, though, is you'd still need a place for a blu-ray player & cable/sat receiver. Anyone make wall-mountable ones?

Well, sound is certainly subjective.

And the fact that you think one sounds better than the other doesn't necessarily speak to the amount of technology that went into each unit. I think it's safe to say that there is considerably more technology built into an all-in-one solution than a long bar with a bunch of speakers in it. I could build a linear array of speakers with a bunch of satellites & screws, connect them to my av receiver & say I have the same amount of tech as a speaker-only sound bar (an over-simplification, I know...but just to illustrate a point).

For me, there would be little benefit to running a bar that required a receiver. I would only run one out of necessity for space & convenience...in that light, the choice between an all-in-one & a speaker-only is pretty simple.

"Nonsense" ..Thats your opinion.. besides you need a receiver with both the above. that alone takes away from the idea of a soundbar .. I heard one of the Mythos bars at a Best buy and they do have nice clear sound but no way the surround placement of a YSP...the Polk SDA is analog sound with no more than a "spatial imitation" of surround sound
