I love how realistic Miles Davis-Kind Of Blue on SACD sounds. Really feels like "they" are in the living room, no speakers, no electronics, pure music !!! To me this one is magnificent, and if you are into mellow yet hip instrumental jazz, then it will be a real treat !!! It really is an experience in my living room, and my go to choice for recommendations. It is also inexpensive for an SACD too.

Next up, BLUE COAST COLLECTION - THE E.S.E. SESSIONS - VARIOUS ARTISTS (HYBRID SACD). Stunning sound quality. Definitely superb test and demo material. Also has quite a few very likable and enjoyable tracks on it so it's not basic crappy elevator music. A lot of people love this one and it's easy to "hear" why.

http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Coast-Col...4852493&sr=8-1

So far I have about 50-60 SACD's and some I took chances on and love, and some that's not the case. Only because it's not something I really would listen to anyhow. These two suggestions are very likable and enjoyable, but most of all the sound quality itself is simply great !!!
Thanks Andrew...going for breakfast with an old friend downtown and the store I mentioned earlier is right across the street. Going to see what he has. I wouldn't mind some Yo-Yo-Ma either....

Of the 4 SACD's I own, I have 3 of them on regular CD and vinyl. They are:
Pink Floyd: Dark Side Of The Moon
Dire Straits: Brothers In Arms
Roxy Music: Avalon

I have listened to all 3 on 5.0 (I don't have a sub) and also 2-channel. With the Pink Floyd SACD I did a 2-channel comparison and the difference to regular CD is like night and day. I have done 2 listen's each of Brothers in Arms on CD and SACD in 2-channel and again...the difference is like night and day. Later this evening I'll be evaluating the Roxy Music: Avalon disc in the same manner. I suspect that the same result will be realized.

I think that SACD in general, when making a direct comparison, outshines the CD version every time.
That's why I mentioned controlled listening tests in my post along with the caveat that this subject generates lots of heat, if not much light.

Here's a link to an article about the most significant recent study of the issue, done by E. Brad Meyer and David Moran and published in the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society in September 2007.

http://theaudiocritic.com/plog/index...eId=4&blogId=1

The original JAES article is here. It used to open right up, but requires a login now:

As for your personal tests, what do you know about the source recordings of the two versions and how each was handled in the preparation of the CDs and SACDs. Those are relevant considerations.

EDIT: Also, I don't disagree that SACD and DVD-Audio usually sounds better than CD. I'm a big fan myself. I'm merely saying the hires formats aren't necessarily better than redbook. The Genesis SACDs, for example, are pretty disappointing and sound no better than the CDs.

I have a question, how's the sound quality of the ps3's analogs compared to hdmi when playing sacd's?

I'm asking this because my Marantz SR-8400 does not have hdmi input and would like to connect my ps3(60gb version) using the a/v(audio only) port using high quality connectors.

just so you know, the ps3 has no analog out connectors. its a special sony connection has has audio/video cables connected to it. currently there is only analog stereo. no multi analog.
