At least two and possibly other players in the Sony line will play SACDs. Great news for SACD-lovers, especially with the upcoming Nat King Cole SACDs and the recently released Sam Cooke "Night Beat" SACD.

A step in the right direction for a format that many had written off as finished.

dont know if this is a dumb question or not, but what is SACDs?

back then, only Pioneer and Oppo could bitstream DSD via HDMI.

SACD is short for Super Audio CD a format that gives you better[near master tape quality]audio quality in 5.1 and or stereo.

Actually new titles of SACD releases still come out weekly, so not quite dead.. I wonder if this news will mean bluray audio will be pushed back??

I have my share of SACD recordings but I don't really listen to them that much anymore and I already have a Class A rated player.

I suppose as a throw in it is fine to include but SD DVD players by Sony one could get as cheap as $100 back when.

SACD is a music-only format primarily intended for audiophiles. The early PS3 models could play SACD, but Sony dropped it on later iterations. Currently a well-known player with SACD capability is the Oppo BD83.

Hopefully, this means Sony is getting back into SACD with new releases.

is there a chance that PS3 slim could play SACD again? (reference to the 1st 60go model)

No, PS3 Slim never has and never will. It lacks certain hardware.

SACD is making a comeback in hardware capability with so many different Blu-ray players adding that feature. Some great new ones are coming out, like the upcoming Nat King Cole SACDs and the new Sam Cooke.
