The longer a movie does well, doesnt it usually take longer to come out (maybe an extra few weeks or a month)...a movie that bombed usually is out sooner...I would think late October as the movie is still getting run in the theatre, it was still 7th at the Box Office for the last week...

not necessarily, when The Dark Knight came out (5 months later like P@T_Mtl mentioned) it was still playing in about 300 theaters in the US.

That may be true...I am just guessing too, different studios might have different strategies to maximize profit...

I would explain TDK coming out in December to maximize the sales for the Christmas season...if the five months would of put it to say August, maybe it comes out in September, October (i guess we will never know)...would be interesting to go over the top 5 movies from last year and 5 not so good movies and see how long it takes for them to come out...

IMO it always seemed like it took longer for better to movies to come out and bad movies came out quicker...but that may just be more a function of you actually want them so it feels longer

Why? They're identical.

The reason why Apollo 13 was released with both is because they had to make the film shorter (due to the older bulbs IMAX was using then), and I believe they adjusted the aspect ratio for the IMAX screen to fit more of the screen (most likely using the super 35 that it was filmed with).

But, in the case of Star Trek, they were identical, and if the aspect ratio was different, it would have been due to cropping (seeing as it was shot anamorphically and not super 35).

Star Trek fans will be very interested to know what is in slate for the upcoming release of the recent Star Trek Movie for Blu Ray and DVD. I found this piece of news (about the European release) from www.digitalbits.com/rumormill.html as well as www.trekmovie.com....

First details on “Star Trek” DVD/Blu-ray features and deleted scenes

The first details for the Blu-ray edition of the 2009 Star Trek movie have come out of Europe, complete with a release date and list of special features (including deleted scenes). Although Paramount Home Entertainment will not officially confirm any details, TrekMovie and the Digital Bits have confirmed with sources that the reports are (for the most part) accurate. Details below.

TrekMovie has previously reported that there will likely be three home video versions of the Star Trek movie: standard widescreen DVD, special edition DVD set, and special edition Blu-ray. The details out of Germany from Filme-Bluray.de and AreaDVD.de are for the Blu-ray, but could also apply to the special edition DVD set.

Bear in mind that there can be variations between different regions, and also this is not an official release from Paramount, so this should not be considered final. However, except for some of the naming, sources indicate the below list is accurate.

You know, I may have to agree. Couldn't have predicted that at the beginning of the year.

Same here, as exciting as the previews made it look I have learned to never trust them. I also failed to mention that I only saw 3 movies at the theaters this year. Oops.
