I am split on this movie. The first trailer where they blurred out the alien made it look really cool, then as someone above stated the first look preview made this look like a comedy and really bad. So I am not sure on how I feel on this. I have a bad feeling this movie is going to be as lame as the movie Evolution with David Duchovney.

Kinda split on this one as well...as long as it is a serious alien film and no comedy to it...it's going to kick ass...we need some R-rated alien/ decapitating action!

Here's a link to the website for the movie. There are links to multiple sites at the bottom of the page. Looks interesting...reminds me of Starship Troopers (possibly where everyone is perceiving this as a comedy).

http://www.district9movie.com/

http://www.d-9.com/

I'll probably wait for DVD/BD release, since it could be a total flop.

The viral marketing was a bit cheesy to start, but it's intesified quite a bit. The last video that was released was that of the Aliens escaping the camp. I posted about it a few weeks ago (see below). I imagine that all the viral stuff will be hit in the opening credits and the movie will hit the ground running (I hope).

Here's my post from before from an earlier thread:

Quote:
Level 5 Alert! Stay in your homes and secure all doors and windows! District 9 residents are violent and unpredictable! An intense new viral video for District 9 has popped up on YouTube today. It sounds like things are going crazy in Johannesburg, because these alerts are showing up all over. As far as I can tell, this video is from the website D-9.com and plays instead of the normal introductory video when you visit. I'm only going to tell you that you definitely get a glimpse at some more new footage. Beyond that, it's up to you to explore more, as I think this viral for District 9 is definitely starting to ramp up. Check this out!

An extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions in Johannesburg, South Africa suddenly find a "kindred spirit" in a government agent from MNU that is exposed to their mysterious biotechnology.

District 9 is both written and directed by first-timer Neill Blomkamp, a South African filmmaker who previously directed the awesome Halo: Arms Race shorts. The screenplay was co-written by Blomkamp and writing partner Terri Tatchell. This project is based on Blomkamp's short film Alive in Joburg, which can be seen online here. Sony will be bringing District 9 to theaters everywhere on August 14th this summer

Check out the video here

Is there only the 1 trailer out there (blurred or not)? If so, I'll need to see more before I spend $10 at a theatre.

Well, simply stated:

The producer gets the money.
The director gets the performances.

Of course there's more to each of their roles, but that's the basic idea.

A lot depends on who the producer is and who the director is

I'm looking forward to this flic- it may have the old school x-files feel and Jackson is excellent with the non-cgi physical effects. (Ok, and the CGI stuff too)

Bah, not interested in wasting time on viral marketing etc. If I'm not lured in by the trailer, forget it. Only thing I'll check out now is if another trailer is put out, or word-of-mouth after its released.

Viral marketing kind of keeps me interested in the film even more, but it can be kind of creepy; every time I think of Cloverfield and the Dark Knight's take on viral marketing, it just sort of creeps me out.

If Peter Jackson's name wasn't in the title, nobody would care about this movie.

I'm just sayin'.

Do you think more people would be interested in this if it was J.J. Abrams instead of PJ?
