Very sad. Watched him on pitchmen every show. Don't think there will be anyone else like him either.

Tampa Bay's Fox television affiliate interviewed Mays after the incident.

"All of a sudden as we hit you know it was just the hardest hit, all the things from the ceiling started dropping," MyFox Tampa Bay quoted him as saying. "It hit me on the head, but I got a hard head."
A Natasha Richardson situation perhaps?

Exact thing happened to my father. He had chest pain and did not go to a doctor right away. Doctors say most men will not go see a physician after having chest pain due to a traumatic event.

My heart goes out to his family. I know Billy worked hard and did a great job at what he did. I had a laugh or two at his expense but I'm sure he would say.. that was ok, as long as he got the lime light his clients demanded"

RIP Billy

He was interviewed at the airport after the landing and said that stuff falling from the overhead compartments hit him on the head. This could be a similar fate to Liam Neesons wife.

Edit: I see Detroit beat me by 2 minutes. Doh.

The FAA is already deflecting blame for the death of Billy Mays -- claiming the legendary TV pitchman wasn't wearing a seat belt when he took a shot to the head during a rough landing on a flight he was on yesterday.

Here's what we know -- Billy Mays was aboard US Airways Flight 1241 flying from Philadelphia, which landed roughly when the front tire blew out as it touched down. After the flight, Billy told FOX 13 in Tampa that something struck him in the head -- here's Billy's actual quote:

"All of a sudden as we hit you know it was just the hardest hit, all the things from the ceiling started dropping. It hit me on the head, but I got a hard head."

We called the FAA for comment, and a spokesperson told us, "The passenger needs to wear a seat belt during landing and he didn't."

A spokesperson for US Airways did not want to comment until more information comes to light.

Billy posted about it last on his Twitter last night, saying, "Just had a close call landing in Tampa. The tires blew out upon landing. Stuck in the plane on the runway. You can always count on US Air."

Yeah, so weird. Nobody usually dies in Summer.

It's a shame for Mr. Mays and his family, as is ANY death. I, however, am having difficulty feeling any meaningful connection to the individual in question. But, I must say the fact that others ARE affected is a testimony to Mr. Mays efforts to gain the public's trust in order to buy the products he was selling. RIP Mr. Mays.

My father was 61... yes 11 years older but my father was also in great shape. 12 years as a Drill Sergeant during Vietnam.

It was just a speculation. His bump to the head could be a factor as well.

If the bump to the head did do something, that tells me there must have been something prior that nobody knew about and the bump was just a catalyst to set it in motion.

That's unless the bump was more than just a bump. If it was more than that, I am sure he would have had it checked out. I can't believe the airlines is already deflecting any blame. What a joke. If they MAINTAINED their planes, it would not have had a blowout. Not saying the planes blowout then the bump is what killed him... but really, come on.

The TMZ story kinda contradictory. The way the airline is saying it, it sounds like Billy Mays was jolted and went up from his seat and hit his head. Billy Mays said that things started to drop from the celling. So if things fell from above, the seat belt would not have been an issue. Maybe Billy did have his seat belt on but when the stuff started to fall, he took it off to dodge the items. But thats just my take.

Autopsy will eventually say, but the day before the incident on the plane happened.
