Then again, I have changed my mind, come up to Toronto, there's a civil workers strike going on right now and the place is getting garbage piled up in city parks, it really is quite pleasant.

ha... The thought of moving to Canada has always been lingering in the back of my head. I visited Toronto a few years back and I liked it. maybe I will in the near future.

Trust me, you wouldn't like it right now.

Piles and piles of endless garbage, if city council were meeting, we'd have to put forth a motion to change the name of the city to 'Garbageville'

Since this bill was $70 for 15 days, it means it would be $140 for a month!! when I see bills like these, I just put a blu-ray one and forget everything!!
It won't be a company tax, it'll be a national tax. So no matter who serves you, we'll all get it in the shorts. Then it'll spiral into other things such as grocery stores, clothes stores etc...b/c they will have to pay more as well.

Make no mistake, the company won't profit from this, your rate hike (everyone's really) will be paid by us (the consumer) and collected by the govt from the utility company.

oo.. I know that its a nation wide thing. I mean that if a person isn't happy with an electric company's service, they can't do anything about it. that's what I was trying to say.

You can always question them by contacting the PUC (Public Utilities Commission) for legitimate reasons.

Just a note too, if you mention the PUC when you are speaking with the customer service rep at your utility, they should pay alot more attention to you

If your meter was read incorrectly, the next time they come out to read it it should be corrected by showing you didn't use as much electricity.

Refrigerators in Apartments are the big issues- many of them were cheap to begin with (not efficient) and now they are older. They are sucking in the power...more than you may realize.

A/C units are often old and original - one apartment I was in was the original A/C unit from the mid-70's. It had been serviced but it wasn't efficient. We installed a programmable thermostat to it for during the day because the old dial style therm didn't seem to be reading the proper temp causing the A/C and heat in winter come on at the wrong times.

Also, if your apartment has a light outside, it might be drawing off your power - 60 watt bulb will draw 1kw every 16 hours, 45 minutes...43kw a month can get costly and could be part of your cost - get a CF bulb in there just to be safe in case it is drawing on your circuit

The main breaker idea someone mentioned is a good idea - apartments have all kinds of folks in them, including those with no regard for safety or other folks - it could be possible that someone was crazy (or ingenious) enough to tap into your circuit post meter to get some juice on someone else's dime... Maintenance wouldn't likely catch this unless they were looking for it (even then, most apartment handy guys are not specialist and wouldn't know a spliced wire if it smacked them in the face).

yea, I been keeping an eye on meter and the days I used my AC it's about 17kw a day, compare to the 24kw they say I used. Also, our fridge is brand new (we bought it) and it's a energy star one. Nothing fancy. The building was built just over a year ago so the AC is still nice and fresh. we replaced all our house bulbs to those CF bulbs. So instead of 60watt its about 13watt. I will try the breaker idea this weekend. by the time I get home from work, im tired and all I want to do is play COD4.. hehe. maybe I should cut down on playing COD4 to save power..
