oscar worthy.

seriously, at the very least the reviewer needs to pay attention to what they are reviewing.

Martin has been around for a while, he's a professional reviewer. Just because you don't agree with the review, you shouldn't call him drunk.

his last line states:

Quote:
fans should have no reservations about picking this one up, but newcomers to the film should give it a rent.

Saw a Diesel movie thread, so I had to chime in

First of all, I absolutely and utterly disagree with the review by Martin about the quality of the movie, I would give the movie 4.5/5. Was it Dark Knight, Return of the King, Terminator 2 quality?
Hell no, but I loved it and thought it was great.
But I'm a huge fan of the series, and obviously a big Diesel fan; but I also know this film is NOT a for everyone film and can 100% accept that Martin disliked the movie as much as it seems he does and can even understand why he disliked it. So I have no beef with the 2.0/5.0 rating he gave it.

That said,
I think the reviewers should give out whatever rating they personally see fit in their reviews, since they are just that, their reviews. These are very opinion based writings and ratings of these movies, so I would never want them to lighten up, be harsher, or whatever. They should write whatever they see fit for the film as long as it is reasonable and not just some rant about how much they hate everything about the movie and its the worst movie ever, etc.

As for the reviewer profile page, that is actually a good suggestion and would be cool imo.

Oh and, the reviewers review certain studios I believe, so Martin isn't intentionally reviewing movies he dislikes.

Edit: I also think that spoiler-ific screen shot should be taken down in case someone who has yet to see the film decides to browse through the screen shots

1. IMO the movie is a thoughtless, mindless wannabe action movie and i completely agree with martin. doesn't mean everyone will, and that is both understandable and expected.
2. different opinions are what make reviews interesting and thought provoking. if reviewers just bowed to the majority there would be no point in reading them.
3. people really should stop complaining on here every time they read a review they disagree with. it's getting very tiresome to to see a new thread about "why didn't (reviewer) give this movie a better rating?!?!?" every week. the reviews on here are not ultimatums for a movie; they are one man's (or woman's) own opinion, not yours.
4. there is already a thread about this:
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=107450

note: this post is in reference to the 2nd thread started, not the OP

Perfectly said , especially #3. I was going to write that but figured I couldn't be bothered as these threads just keep popping up.

If you don't like a review, leave your own. Calling the reviewer out like this is childish.

Good evening everyone,

1. Just like you, the readers, we, the reviewers, like and dislike many different films.

2. A review is nothing more than an opinion. Only dictators demand that everyone shares the same opinion. We are not a dictatorship!

3. A good reviewer is one that successfully defends what he/she argues about. Not one who gives good scores.

Thank you.

A couple of peole said look at the user reviews. Have you ever really read those. People don't post unless they like the movie. Not real merit there.

i will agree with you, but then again there are millions of places to get reviews for movies on the internet. if it comes down to a movie i've never seen, i'll always read the review on this site first, but occasionally compare it to other dvd/bluray websites too just to see what other people are saying about it. everyone on here is hooked up to the internet....if you want a 2nd opinion of a movie (for whatever reason) based on a review here, there are plenty of other places to look

If you're looking for a review of the movie that lines up with what you think and you liked the film, try this one.

That review compared with Martin's just goes to show the difference of opinion everyone has.

There's a big difference between disagreeing with a review and calling out the reviewer by name. (or accusing him of being 'drunk') That's crap.

I totally agree that the reviewer has the right to his or her opinion about a film.

However, please stop with the spoilers. people read reviews to see if a movie is worth checking out or buying. The spoilers in this review really sucked, as I read it as someone who has yet to see the film. It wasn't only the screenshot at the end, it was content within the review as well. A professional reviewer can give the feel of a movie, their opinion of the storyline, without wrecking the movie for those who haven't seen it yet.

My 2 cents.

I for one happened to be one of those who really liked this movie, so I do disagree with the reviewer, but I still benefited from reading his reviews regarding the PQ, AQ and what was included in supplemental material. And just for curiosity's sake, I get to see why others might dislike a movie that I really happen to like.

But usually, I don't pay too much attention to or give too much buying decision based on the movie review itself (only the PQ & AQ). Actually, I find the user reviews helpful when it's a movie that the official reviewer gave 2 stars or below to give me a more balanced view.

Overall tho, I think the reviewers here are fair (and hope they are not too harsh when it comes to movies they may personally dislike), but I want to say that I appreciate some of the reviewers efforts to see the movie from a target audience that the movie is aimed at; for example, the reviewer of High School Musical where the reviewer said he asked his 9-year old niece to sit on and get her feedback! Haha! That had me cracking up!

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 is another movie that had me laughing when I read the review and thought it was very fair.

I would hope that as the Blu-ray format grows more into mainstream, Blu-ray.com will continue to be open to reviewing movies like this and giving them a fair review. So good job guys! Thanks for this site!

Hey all. Not sure if everyone noticed, but Marty actually enjoyed other entries in the 'Fast and Furious' series. He reviewed all the other films, awarding the original a 4, and 'Tokyo Drift' a 3.5. I know some of you don't agree with his assessment of the latest F&F flick, but I thought it might be helpful to point out that he's quite familiar with the series (enough so that I'd label him a fan).

Anyway, whether you agree with us or not, thanks as always for posting!

Nice point. I think he was spot on with the other 3 films. I haven't seen the new one yet though. I'll be picking up the 2001 version in the future. Glad to see the blu-ray scored high

Keep the reviews coming guys, I know sometimes it can feel like a thankless job, but lots of us joe-schmoes depend on them for quality of disc and sometimes their thoughts on the story
