Default Fast & Furious Review and Reviews on this site

I think I am gonna use my first ammendment right and ask WTF?

Reviewer Martin Liebman is so harsh on anything that is not a Citizan Kane script. Granted not the greatest movie ever but not bad. But a 2.0? What is the deal?

I guess I was just kinda shocked by this. I wish that they would add a profile page for some of these reviewers so I could get to know there tastes. If I see that Martins favorite movie is 2001 I am not gonna expect him to like this as much where I might want to read more reviews. But instead I read this and think that the movie is utter trash. I will usually make my own opinion but I have missed some gems in the past based on his reviews. He spends so much of his time reviewing movies that he hates, I wonder what he likes?

And this may just be me but I have seen more then a handful of reviews by him that I look at and go WTF?

AND PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THIS IS JUST MY OPINION AND I AM ENTITLED TO IT BEFORE RESPONDING.

He should have put spoilers. People who haven't seen the movie should not have to find that out at the end of the review.

you are entitled to your opinion, but the reviewers are also entitled to theirs, and if they really don't like a movie, they should be able to express that. every reviewer on here likes certain movies and dislikes others. i personally think F&F is a mindless, pointless movie and I completely agree with martin's review. that being said, it is understandable that not everyone will. a profile page might be nice, but like you said, you have read many of his past reviews so that in and of itself should give you an idea of his tastes.

i always like reading someone's thoughts on a movie, and i think all of the reviews here are very well written. but i usually base my purchases on the PQ/AQ/Extras more than anything else, as I already have an idea of whether or not I'll like a movie. i think it bears mentioning that basing a blind buy solely on a review always runs the chance of setting yourself up for displeasure. like you said OP: see what other movies the reviewer likes or dislikes and try to get an idea of their tastes and how much they match your own.

That's why if it's a movie I've seen and liked, i only look at the video and audio rating.

I see a lot of movies get 5 that i wouldn't give a 3 and movies that i would give a 4 or 5 get 2 or 3. But usually the audio/video/features rating are dead on, so that's what i look at personally.

My point was that if I had not read a bunch of his. At one point I stopped buying a couple of movies based on reviews when I first came to this site. I was like well Blu-Ray.com says that its crap. And since I don't rent anymore, I kinda missed a few movies here and there because of it.

On the other hand.....................

I have enjoyed some of his reviews. And I love that way he actually has passion about what he does and how he is able to break things down about a movie. But really a 2 stat movie to him is a 4 star movie to me sometimes.

Some of the reviews that he does just seem so harsh towards some movies.

That is what i do. If i know I'll like the movie, i mainly look at the specs of PQ/AQ.

I do think that a profile page for the reviewers would be pretty cool.

1. again, it is awesome that you trust(ed) the reviews here so much; they are extremely well written and i've used them several times when i'm debating a purchase. however, if you base your purchases solely off them, you might occasionally set yourself up for being displeased. that is not the fault of the reviewer

2. i don't think there's anything wrong with being harsh, especially if you are reviewing movies you really don't like. why should anyone be lenient and bow to other views or opinions when it is their review to begin with...yano?

I loved that idea when I saw it on another site. It gave top 10 favorite movies. Some of the TV shows that th person liked. Favorite directors. Stuff like that. Maybe a quick bio.

1. Kinda embarassing but when I first got here I thought it was like an official BLu-Ray owned site. I read or glanch at every review placed up new. I have some blind buys based off from reviews but I have stayed away from certain movies but when someone you have grown to somewhat trust gives it a the same score as the new Street Fighter movie, it must be pretty bad, but it wasnt.

2. I agree with you. This website is a weird one cause you gotta look at the PQ/SQ too, its like 3 reviews in one.

I used to write reviews for a my high school newspaper with this other kid who ripped every movie apart. Everything. Hated everything. Then I found out that he only like Sci-Fi movies and hated everything else. So his reviews were doomed from day one. If the reviewers on this site are like that, i'd like to know while I am reading their reviews. I guess that is my point. If a friend of mine recommends "30 Days of Night" to me and I have never heard of it but I know that he watches everything horror and is a good meter on good/bad in horror, I will check it out. I hope this makes sense.

It's important to read other reviews out there and not just based your emotions on just one.

Despite a review that you may not like, in the end, there is you...the public who can give your own opinion about a film and the Blu-ray's picture and audio quality and special features in the user review section.

But like anything you may be interested in...video games, technical hardware to a baby seat for your newborn child, do you research and read multiple reviews and possibly that will give you a better idea whether or not to pass, rent or buy.

Way to spoil a major point in the movie with that screenshot. Seriously, if any moderators are reading this, that last screenshot in the review needs to be removed.

i thought the same thing too (i think many do!)

keep in mind, someone might think it IS as bad as the new street fighter movie....it's hard to feel that way if you yourself like it. but someone else may watch it and walk away completely disgusted. lots of people watch movies in a different light. it's all about finding someone who watches the same way you do, or every now and then, taking a chance and seeing what someone completely opposite you thinks

it does make sense, and like i posted above (and like you've already said), a lot of it is finding someone who has similar tastes. sometimes i will buy something based on a reviewer i don't normally follow, and sometimes i'm quite pleased with the purchase while other times not. every reviewer thinks differently, and i'm proud we have a website where they are allowed to speak their minds without having to bow to any sort of majority

instead of just posting something in here and "hoping" someone sees it, why not take some action and PM martin, pro-b, or a mod?

my 2 cents, have more than one review of a movie by a group of reviewers. Album reviews used to be like this where you had a group of 4-5 people that had different taste in music give their quick opinion regarding an album. This would work out quite well and actually make reading monthly reviews entertaining. Just make sure you have a good mix of reviewers. Not all 4-5 reviewers need to see a movie but a mixed bag would help.

I understand where the OP is coming from and yes harsh criticism is fine but its not a fair representation if its from someone with a bias.

Do you want to read a review of a Sex Pistols concert from someone that is a jazz buff? Is it my duty to find out if this guy is a jazz buff and hates punk? The real question is why is he reviewing a Sex Pistols show in the first place?

I don't see how that is spoiling the movie with that picture. I mean you find that out in the first 10 minutes of the movie. Not like it is some shocking twist that happened at the very end. Still I enjoyed the movie and will be picking it up. I was a little pissed that they hardly used Jordana Brewster in this movie. I mean like 15 minutes top..not even that much time she was in the movie. Yet I really only watched it for Vin and Paul . But come on, at least give her better material to work with.

I give the movie a 3/5. The movie was a good popcorn movie. Really who is watching this for the jaw dropping story line? It's fast cars, hot girls, and muscular leading men.

As others have noted, I only look at the AQ/PQ ratings. The rest doesn't mean much to me, and since I have Netflix I never buy a movie unless I've already seen it.

I agree! I think this movie was wayyy better than a 2.0 rating. I thought it was fantastic but that could be because I was staring at Vin most of the time.

All that said, I will definitely be buying this next Tuesday as soon as it comes out!!!!!

Thumbs down Fast and Furious review

Okay, don't take this as me hailing this movie as the second coming or anything, but man, at least review the right damn movie! The reviewer is lost as heck. He's reviewing half of the first movie, and some of the 4th movie. Was he drunk? I mean, do they even read through their own reviews before they submit them? That is all.
