If the room is guaranteed to be free from all possbile sources of light while TV is in use (particularly outside light --- meaning no windows whatsoever), then plasma offers the best quality for the environment. If the room will be experiencing varying lighting conditions, LCD is the way to go. Plasma doesn't offer consistent PQ in lighted rooms. |

My sister owns an Samsung LCD and between her screen and my Plasma, the plasma does have a better image quality.
Now... I've had my Panny TH50PZ800 since nov. 2008. Its been very well broken in and i watched all sorts of programing with it since I got it. Its always been in the THX mode and most of the setting are lowered down. I never had a problem until recently... I was watching a certain TV Station called the Food Network (awesome BBQ shows if your into BBQ'ing, and I sure as hell am ![]() So this is still a minor issue and I sure as hell aint full of it... maybe the 2009 models are better but mine's a 2008. I contacted Panny and they gave me a few tips that ill try tonight. But image wise, Plasma wins it. Last edited by 4x12; 07-28-2009 at 07:50 PM. Reason: wrong tv brand |

By the Grace of the Home Theater Gods, I went from the 800u to the V10, so I have personal experience with both. I got scared a few times with the 800u, particularly with station logos - I had pretty significant IR a number of times. Thankfully, it was never permanent. Knowing that, I have not avoided them with the V10. I have yet to see the V10 retain a station logo, and I'm only at hour 90ish of its break-in. |

I've had a 60" Kuro for more than a year. My break-in (for the first 200hrs) consisted of alternating break-in DVD and watching full-screen programming. After than, I have watched logo-ridden programming for hours, video games for hours, widescreen movies for hours, (get the picture?) and have never experienced any retention problems what-so-ever. I've never even had to use the "clean" the screen feature. Am I lucky? I don't think so, I just think that if you have even partial common sense in your TV viewing, you will not have any problems with a plasma
As far as what I recommend - I think it goes without saying. I have a 40+ inch Samsung LCD and the Kuro and see absolutely no comparison between the two. If you have the money and have a choice between the two, do yourself a favor and get the plasma. Good luck |

$3000 Canadian may make it more difficult to find a 600M for that price, but I would still look around for one online. Ebay comes to mind. My biggest recommendation would be to get atleast a 58inch Plasma. I know very little about different projectors, but if you are doing a room strictly for movie watching then I think that would be a great option if you can quality equipment for that price. |

Here is my two cents on the subject since I have owned both a 2008 Samsung 860 LCD and a 2008 Panny PZ850u plasma...
Since you have a dark room, like me, you will much more satisfied with the plasma. Because my room was so dark, every flaw in the LCD technology was visible, i.e., flashlighting, backlight bleed, clouding, therefore, I exchanged my set for a plasma. I have never been happier. Family members who have seen both sets agree that the plasma is hands down the best TV they have ever seen (granted, they have not seen a KURO ![]() Regarding IMage Retention (IR) and Burn In (BI), the major difference between them is that IR is temporary and BI is usually permanent. Have I experienced IR on my plasma? Yes. Did it go away? Yes. Very quickly actually and usually you cannot see it while watching another program. Burn-in is caused when a static image is left on the screen for days. Good luck and hope get a winner of a set! |

My main set is in my basement, in a room with a window on the side and French doors on the opposite wall from my set. All have plantation shutters to control any direct light, but the room still gets a lot of indirect light that does not negatively affect (to me) my picture quality. I do, however, have issues with my plasma upstairs in the living room, which has lots of sunlight during the day. Had I to do it over (I bought the set for a different room before we moved into this house), I would have chosen a good LCD for this room. As we don't watch very much TV upstairs during the day, it's not high on my list of things to change right now. Last edited by My_Two_Cents; 07-29-2009 at 12:40 PM. |

Just my two cents here, but I have a Sony 42" LCD and one of my friends has a Samsung 50" Plasma. For Blu-ray, I take the Sony LCD because the image is sharper. The plasma has better blacks and color but the image didn't have the same sharpness.
FWIW, I watched WATCHMEN on both sets. ![]() |

You could get a Local Dimming LED like the Sony XBR8 or the Samsung A950 and they have phenominal black levels for LCDs, I saw a Pro 111 Pioneer and a Samsung 55" A950 next to one another and they looked practically identical, blacks maybe just ever so slightly better on the plasma, but colors were dead even, IMO.

As close as they are to Pioneer PQ, and considering the fact that they'll be here next year to support you 100%, and considering you can take $1,000+ and sink it into the rest of your gear...well, add all that up for a no-brainer. |
