Have you considered a pull down screen, and keeping your current plasma?

You can get entry level 720p projectors for $700

This way you wouldn't have a need to sell your current plasma (which you'll take a huge loss on too.....)

To be honest, I also have a 52" Samsung A750 which has an incredible picture but since I have installed the projector 2 months ago I think the Samsung has been on only about 2 hours in that time frame. The family just loves the projector.

If I knew it was going to be like this I would have bought a Panasonic 3000 1080p which seems to get amazing reviews everywhere I look.

Anyway here is the link on Amazon for the projector I have. If interested..

It doesn't need to be pitch black, rather the light just cant be reflecting of the screen.

Yes....

I don't notice a change in the image when the bathroom door to the right of the seating position is opened, because the door swings out to the left (so it blocks light to the screen) and light will pour in where the seating is...

I was putting my curtains etc. back up over the stairs, and while I had them down, I had a movie in, and 1/3 of the screen on the left was "Normal" where the light was blocked by a wall..... and the other 2/3 were grey/washed out looking, and you could see very clearly where the image changed due to the wall blocking the light.

Even before I had proper window treatments on the two windows behind the screen (still working on the details) the light that would peak through on these windows didn't really affect the picture quality.... it's the light that makes it's way to the front of the screen that you have to worry about the most.

Anyone have an opinion on this? I am moving to a new house and will be building a new home theatre. I have been using an Optoma HD70 and have been happy with the picture and am looking to upgrade to 1080p and am leaning toward the HD20.

Yeah that's exaclty what I want to do, sorry for my lack of explanation. I would sell my plasma only if I choose buying a new one in which case I won't be spending that much money. The pull down screen is a must due to the fact that the screen will be placed in my living room. I'm currently at work right now but when I get home I'll take some pics of my living room

If you have a little extra money to spend, consider a motorized screen hooked to your projector which will automatically lower when you turn on the projector. To be honest, though, once you get used to your projector you may not use the plasma much and may want to move it to another room.

Entry level projector systems may not have exacting reproduction of pixels that many videophiles prefer, but, in my opinion gives a much more film-like appearance than a "high-fidelity" plasma with a glossy glass screen. The projector screen itself adds a granularity to the image just like a screen in the theatre which seems to reduce the harshness of film grain (I have no objective reference but it appears that way to my eyes).

I think it has a lot to do with how bright your projector is, do you have black walls and ceiling in your room, how low can your on/off contrast go.

A lot of JVC (RS1, RS2, RS10, RS20...etc) owners in blacked out bat caves have commented that the LEDs from there gear have raised the black levels on screen. Most JVC owners black out everything they can to get the got from there front projectors and that includes black tape over LEDs.

.
That's true.... I did paint the front wall, and ceiling black, and the rest is a dark brown...... even the reflective light from the carpet irks me.... that's why I'm having it replaced!
