I think i've made up my mind.

If I got it, then I would be an HD-DVDUMBASS, and I don't want that happening.

Hd dud may have Universal but we recently got Anchor Bay (Starz), meaning we get the Halloween series, Near Dark, and plenty more great movies. Not to mention Fox will be releasing more titles as well.

Fox needs to get off their lazy ass and release Office Space.

Not to put words in Aaron's mouth, but I think there's a difference between someone who bought an HD DVD a while ago and someone buying one now. I think anyone buying an HD DVD player now--no matter how cheap--is either misinformed or has more money than sense (or both!).

For now, upscaled SD Universal titles will have to do. I doubt Universal will sit on the wrong side of the fence for too much longer. :-)

I agree, I bought my hd dvd player last august (not one of my smarter buying decisions but it's a nice relic) when I got my tv and I wanted a player that upscaled and hd dvd deck was cheaper plus I knew I would be getting the PS3. If anyone I know is wondering whether or not which way to go now I tell them blu ray...trust me most of the universal hd dvds suck anyway, especially most of the catalog titles

there's no reason to defend buying a HD DVD player....especially early on when things were up in the air...

as I always say...if you like movies...go Blu-ray...if you like Universal and Batman Begins...go HD DVD

I like both...but I consider the options and choose a side...

being neutral doesn't help....it's pretty much like being Warner or Paramount...

Who needs to defend, other then it's plain stupid to use this 'war' as a reason not to enjoy films.

As I always say: If you like movies, just do what you have to do to enjoy them. Buy both players. Buy a combo player. But don't cop an attitude about 'choosing' sides. What are we, playground kids?

I prefer one side to win, BLU-RAY, and then this will all be over. But I'm not going to let it stop me from enjoying films.

My time on this planet is too short, and to worry about weather this billion dollar company or that one wins a stupid 'war' is a waste of it.

To those who want both players, more power to them.

wow...the whole "choosing sides" thing is about encouraging 2 formats and showing them that we will accept something like this in the future...

the movie department is not the videogame department and these are 2 major forces in the world of technology going head-to-head...

if you want to invest in high-def discs, the best idea ...for yourself is to support only one side...

...

No, the best idea is to just support high def. When you think about it, the DVD only side has a far larger share of the market. Buying titles of either HD or BD at the very least, shows support for high def.

SONY will win, to this I have no doubt. More studios support BD. It's a matter of time till this is over. Until then, I (and others like me), will enjoy movies no matter who makes them.

I disagree and find it amusing that you're attempting to tell others what's best for them.

I'm a movie lover, not a format lover. As such, I've done what's necessary to ensure that I'm able to get any title released in HD, regardless of the studio distributing it. I don't have to choose between the second season of Weeds and Shaun of the Dead - I can watch both. I don't have to choose between Donnie Brasco and Casino - I can watch both.

To each his own - I really couldn't care less how others spend their money. I just think it's funny when someone tries to spend another guy's money for them.

alright...then you're guaranteed wasting money...because you're impatient...

but if you're investing more than even 200 bucks on a movie player....you shouldn't be expecting to buy another unless you want to put it at 2 different locations...which seams feasible...

I just don't see how supporting both formats makes sense...you can try to spin this shit any way you want...

with the whole

"you take BD too serious...there's more to life"

or

"don't tell people how to spend their money"

the fact is...I am not telling anyone how to spend their money....the person who started this thread asked for opinions....I gave mine and I don't think it's smart to support both formats when you're just encouraging future wars...

I don't want there to be any kind of conflict when the next format arrives...I want to be able to buy any movie I want "when available"...anyone supporting either format or both obviously wants the same...

1. Of course I'm impatient - that's what being an early adopter is all about, no?
2. I disagree on the "wasting money" part - and since it's my money we're discussing, my opinion is the one that matters. Even if/when one format falls, the player of the "dead" format will continue to play the movies I've purchased, just like always. Should the player break down, I could easily find a used one to replace it.

Again - no offense, but it sounds like you're trying to spend my money here. Maybe for you, investing more than $200 on a second movie player isn't reasonable/feasible unless it's going in a different location, but that's not the case for me. I made my purchases with my eyes wide open - I knew and accepted the inherent risks and haven't looked back.

Right, but the quote I responded to wasn't directed at the OP, it was directed at a dual-format owner. And you were telling him what was best for him, as if you would have any idea what's best for someone you've never met.

If you want there to be a single, unified format next time around, talk to the CE companies. They're the ones who did this - specifically Toshiba and Sony. They're the ones who couldn't reach a compromise and forced this war upon us. Since it's here, I'm taking advantage of the price and quality wars being waged right now - it's pretty great, imo. YMMV.

Most peoples opinions on this forum and at the HD is way too bias. Alot of people say HD-DVD or BD sucks its gay blah. BD and HD both produce a great picture thats what is important. They both don't suck what sucks is the studios playing this game with us.

oh boy...you had to bust out with the bible over here...

you're right..I am trying to spend your money....

I don't know how you can say this war is good...at all...

don't be so defensive...so what you own both formats...good for you and your money that I am spending..

exactly...

if it was HD DVD that was the single format....fine...

but since there are 2...and I have a choice...I made it...they both can produce similar quality when encoded correctly...

but BD allows for more than HD DVD...plus the majority of the movies I want are on the format...
