I currently live in a condo that was built in 1979.. I have a decent, but not spectacular 7.1 system in my living room. My neighbors are the type to complain about everything. In 3 years I have not received a single sound complaint and Ive been watching Blu Rays since the first PS3 came out

Over here, a "condo" is an apartment you buy instead of rent. You still share a wall with another unit, plus each unit is limited to a single level (neighbors upstairs and/or downstairs). AFAIK, I don't have any real separation from the other units.

Last year a tenent wanted to show off his "killer" sound system, so he cranked the volume up high. After 5 minutes of jumping on the floor and banging on the door, I got impatient and turned my volume up to 50% (Onkyo 605 with 7.1 channels). After 2 seconds he backed down and never went too loud again.

I live in a condo. I had problems with some neibors. there are 4 in one. I live in number 2 which is a two story. I have a decent home theatre system 7.1 with an onkyo receiver. my neibers on the left, moved in about 6 months ago or so.. and they started *****ing.. they would pound on the damn wall.. not come to the door and ask. they are mexican and don;t speak english.. but I still found it weird. becuae I am a nice guy I do keep it down at night after 10pm.. but there are times when I say **** it. sometimes the volume goes up and down on the movies.
hard to hear the people talk.
I had neibors before them and never had a problem.. it was kinda shocking to now have a problem.

I live in a condo and we have flexicore between the units. I have asked the people below me to tell me if I am ever too loud, but they say the only thing they ever hear is if I spill something on the floor, which is pergo. However, the people above me, that is different. Their kid was bouncing a basketball in their floor (which is all pergo as well) and I could hear it. They aren't too considerate either, though.

How much wall are you actually sharing with your neighbors?

my condo is on top of three garages and i share no walls with my neighbors, only a catwalk. the only time my neighbor says he hears my movies is when he is in his garage and even then he could care less. having no shared walls was the big reason i bought my place because i knew this would be an issue. and i had broke ass parents and grew up living in apartment so i knew what it was like listening to other people dinner conversations.

all great stories. Without reading most of these, I have passed on the condo option, and have gone for a three level side-by-side townhouse. The owner occupies the other half, and he seems super cool. I won't know for sure as I'm not moving in till Monday, but I've already told him about my system, and he doesn't care about anything as long as I kind of watch it after 11pm. I can deal with that, plus he is out of town alot.

In fact, I asked him today about running wires through the walls, and he is cool with pretty much anything, especially when I told him I'd pay for the wall connector plates. I think I'm going to like this. Needless to say, in about a week, I'll be updating my gallery pages to a new tab for my new location. He is going to let me paint, but that will come much later.

Aramis...I'm going to be your neighbor.
