Baraka wins for AQ no sweat. Comparing a documentary with an Art movie with a moving score just isnt fair. Planet Earths AQ is just fine for what it is designed to do.

PQ is another area where I wouldnt make a comparison. Baraka is a 70mm film and has a beautifull film look. Planet Earth has IMHO an equally beautifull look, albeit very different. PE looks like what it is, a documentary. There are flaws to be found in some of the more difficult to shoot scenes, however, the overall presentation is so fantastic that it is easy for me to forgive these occasional technical anomalies.

Baraka: 5 stars
Planet Earth: 5 stars
Thanks. Based on your analysis, I will go for Baraka. "Baraka is a 70mm film and has a beautifull film look." - This must be very good, much better than first gen HD video cameras, most likely post converted to 24P.

Mine must be special because it's 1080p. Of course it is special, as mentioned before the BBC version is 1080p, and my case from Canada is correctly labelled as 1080p; only the Discovery Channel (US) version was given the 1080i treatment. The 1080i printed on the UK BBC version is a well known typo. Here is the thread that relives all of the hilarity that ensued following the misprint.

Thanks, just checked. According to the review both have excellent PQ, Planet Earth is slightly behind (4.5) Baraka (5). Baraka excels in the audio department. I like the grand look of Baraka since it is 2.2:1. Also I have a preference to film cameras over and above digital cameras.

I don't think I've ever seen a Discover channel version. The only one I've ever seen listed is by BBC. I've owned the DVD and just got the Blu-ray. My only gripe is that the Blu does not have any of the extras ported over.

I have the BBC one

On the Box (cardboard) it say 1080p
but when I slide the case out and look at the case it says 1080i

So it is hard to tell which one people are stating their so call "box/disc" says

your books are old, and outdated if Planet Earth seems reference quality.

You are welcome. If the budget allows, I strongly recommend both.
