While I would love to buy these versions, I won't be picking them up. I think it's outrageous that the SRP is so high on these films. Warner Brothers really screwed up by only making these available as a premium package instead of allowing these movies, these Ultimate Editions, to be purchased with only the Blu-ray movies.

Instead, Warner Brothers opted to force consumers to buy every film along with the prepackaged other items that come with it.

I wish they'd come out faster than just 2 every Christmas. I am very interested to see the extra scenes from the later films. At this rate, it's going to be over 2 years for them all to come out.

It isn't amazing, it is a clip reel with no meat to it. In fact, they make no attempt to suggest even the slightest hint of a real story at all. Its just people running and yelling.

I'm surprised we haven't gotten a release date yet on these. Hopefully there will be an announcement soon.

It doesn't "suggest even the slightest hint of a real story" beacuse it is a teaser trailer... The Watchmen teaser trailer is on ofe the most amazing trailers ever and it shows even less than the HP one.. Besides the main story line for Deathly Hallows was laid out at the end of Half-Blood Prince

The first two were well worth the price.

Two different cuts of the film. New extras. some great swag.

They were a great upgrade. And if you shopped around, you could get them for a decent price.

Do you think every movies will come out eventually in an Ultimate Edition?
Because I'm afraid that if I'm buying the first two, then three and four, I will be disappointed when the full set of the eight movies will come out.
And there's nothing to say that the 7th and 8th movies will have the same treatment as the four others.

And was the movies longer version only for the first two or the 3rf and 4th will also come in an extended version.

Thanks

Yes. We've already seen promotional art that shows all 8 releases in the Ultimate Edition packaging.
It's around here somewhere, I would have to dig thru threads to find it though. But yes, they're planned.

And yes, all of the movies are planned to have extended cuts on the new Ultimate Editions.

That's why I haven't upgraded my old releases from DVD. The DVDs will keep me happy until they get around to them. I only bought the newest one cause it was a combo pack, so I could give my brother the DVD.

Sweet, thanks!
Well I only have Harry Potter in DVD but I wanted to wait for the full set. But now, if the eight movies will come out in Ultimate Edition, I think I'm going to start buying them!
Especially because I don't think will have every bonus features at the end.

For this to work the later edition has to include more scenes then just the deleted scenes previously released. Because those deleted scenes are just dreadful and contribute nothing to the story. Watching Trelowny eat isn't really what i have in mind for great additional scenes. They have to have better scenes up in their sleeves for these sets to not become BIG disappointments

And as we know there are many important scenes in the later potter movies (4-6) that was never on released. so if these are not on the UE it will be the biggest disappointment ever!

I don't think that particular deleted scene in Order of the Phoenix will make the extended cut. The dialogue in that deleted scene is presented in the film as it is now. No need to redo what wasn't broke.

Over at the forums at mugglenet.com, there was a rumor floating around that Yates and Heyman confirmed that they cut out almost an hour out of Order of the Phoenix and that all of that might get restored in the extended cut. Personally, I just don't see that.

I'm not expecting too much from the rest of the extended cuts but there's a possibility that there are deleted scenes that we haven't seen that could end up in the future extended cuts.

Still, not too hopeful.

But when the hell will they then release those scenes we have never seen. Are they just going to sit in the vault of Warner for eternity

Over 20 minutes was cut from OotP, and a few scenes that werent on the blu for 6 have been leaked about. (Such as the tattoo man, who they had a whole feature about on disk 2 of the blu, but the scene was cut from the film and not on the deleted scenes.)

Based on what I've read, it looks like PoA had about 15 minutes removed, GoF 25, OotP 45, and HBP 10. We got pretty much everything that was cut out of CoS re-inserted (with the exception of Harry's "...and the crowing of the rooster can kill it" line that would've made the restored Hagrid/rooster scene more relevant). SS, however, has material out there that wasn't put back in for its Ultimate Edition. Off the top of my head, here's what I know for a fact was filmed and later cut:

* An extended letters from Hogwarts montage (besides the cracking eggs portion) (B-roll footage)

* Extended exposition from Hagrid about the night the Potters were killed (B-roll, TV spot footage)

* Extended Hogwarts intro by McGonagall and Hermione's reaction to Draco later in the same scene (B-roll)

* The Sorting Hat's song (official website at the time of release)

* Peeves the poltergeist (interview)

* Extended Gryffindor dormitory scene in which Neville asks Hermione to kiss his toad Trevor good night (mentioned in interview)

* Extended troll sequence (interview, trailer)

* Extended mirror of Erised scene with Dumbledore (B-roll)

* Extended library scene with Nicolas Flamel info (B-roll)

* Harry and Ron surveying the Gryffindor hourglass after McGonagall deducts points (photo)

* Extended chess challenge (trailer)

There are also rumors of the Dursleys escaping to a hotel before the island shack, an explanation from Dumbledore about the invisibility cloak and why Snape hates Harry, and a longer final chamber with Quirrell, but I haven't seen any evidence pointing to these.

I know we will probably never see the Peeves footage since Chris Columbus didn't like his design at all, but I'm not sure why the other bits haven't seen the light of day. Columbus did admit that editing SS was a bit of a nightmare since the kids were all novices, forcing him to splice lines from different takes and bridge these together with reaction shots. Perhaps the above bits just weren't good enough to be seen. If the rest of the series has footage added that we haven't already seen, then I'll side with this theory for SS.

Someone on YouTube posted a comprehensive presentation of shots and stills cut from movies 3-6 (though he's missing a few):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9mUJTmFuZg

And another focusing solely on HBP, though some of this has since been seen on the BD:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-AL1SL8KHs

Out of all those, I most want to see the Priori Incantantem explanation from GoF and the complete Snape's worst memory scene from OotP (though they'll probably save that for DH). I also really want to see Sirius break into the boys' dormitory (which isn't in the above video since no photos were released from it). WB thankfully told us how much was being added to SS and CoS when they were first announced, so hopefully they'll do the same with PoA and GoF. I really want to know ASAP if we're getting full extended cuts or just lazy insert-DVD-deleted-scenes-back-in edits.

Yeah, they'll tell us.

Hopefully, it'll be a combination of deleted material we've seen and things we haven't.

I'm willing to bet that your theory on SS is completely correct...especially since those deleted materials you mentioned wouldn't really help the film as it stands in either form.

Priori Incantantem does need an explanation. I'm with you. I hope we get a fully explanation in the extended Goblet of Fire. Also, I'm very curious about the "Lost Prophecy" scene at the end of Phoenix. As written in the book, I completely understand why they had to cut that way down. Considering the physical and emotional climax we saw in the Ministry, it would've been almost impossible to have a 5 minute scene with Dumbledore explaining everything then have the rest of the end scenes. But, I do wonder how much of that scene was cut down.

Snape's Worst Memory, we all know they shot the whole thing. They cut wait until Deathly Hallows for Snape's big sequence in Part 2 but I don't really see why they would. It doesn't really fit with the rest of the moments that we'll see in Part 2. Hopefully, it'll make an appearance in the extended cut as well.

Half-Blood Prince was such a tight script that those deleted scenes on the disc now are probably all we'll get...which isn't a bad thing. All of them should've been in the film in the first place.

Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix are the most crucial extended cuts. We'll at least know how Goblet of Fire will look in longer form this fall.

What gives me pause about the coming ultimate editions is something that really started with POA and has continued forward...and that's that they really started to adapt these novels for the screen.

Cuaron pretty much demanded it, with JK Rowling's blessing that anything that didn't pertain to Harry and the plot had to go. And since then, that's what they've been doing to pretty great results.

This is why I don't think there's a treasure chest of deleted scenes for the rest of the films in the vault at WB. They started cutting massively and they almost had too. The novels got very, very complicated.

Order of the Phoenix, if I'm being honest, is the one they cut back too far. But as has been rumored, it's the one with the most deleted material of the series. So again, that extended cut should be interesting.

Goblet of Fire, not so much.

I think so. And not so much the cuts, but for the 8-part documentary (the first two parts are fabulous) that we're getting with these releases and the DTS track.

I'm just trying to figure out how good these Ultimate editions are, currently I have no harry potter films and I'm either going to end up buying all the series in the Ultimate edition or the Hogwartz Castle.
