Talking Just you wait my pretties...

I stopped into MY local BB and just asked if they even CARRIED BD's . The clerk and manager told me very condescendingly "No, we don't carry Blu-rays" In a tone of voice that said: You silly, silly man - that stuff is so far in the future, you don't have to worry your little head about it yet.

I was a little taken aback, but I managed to crack a smile and said:

"Don't worry,,, you will."

I checked out the store near my house last night. A little disappointing.

The BDs were in with the regular new release dvds along the back wall. They were in 1 piece of shelving, 7 rows/8 across = 56 movies. I tried to get an answer as to where the other 100 or so BDs were (that I saw the other day) but the guy was pretty clueless so I'll try again next time. I think there was a row on top not being used because of the cardboard Blu-ray thing on top. There was also a handmade sign right in the middle of the whole affair explaining that the discs "will only play in a Blu-ray player. Like a PS3"

I think this really shows how valuable the shelf space is. Unless I'm way off they've got ~100 BDs hiding somewhere, unrentable because they haven't figured out how to make room for them yet.

Once the section is full can you post a pic for us?

My local store still has one panel for each.

^^^ I notice they spread out the HD DVD to make it look like it filled the rack.

My local BB does the same thing with HD DVD. The BD shelves are always getting new stuff but the HD DVD shelves have been threadbare for months. Every so often they rearrange the tites so strings of alternating face-on/side-on fill the bottom two shelves.

I haven't been in over the last fortnight, but you can see that Blu-ray has no more room so I bet if I went in today they'b be up to two spaces for Blu-ray.

This is in Canada as well and they're not part of the test market. HOpefully soon they too will get rid of the HD DVD section and just go Blu, they said that HD DVD doesn't rent much at all but the Blu-ray discs are popular.

Dang, that's a huge pic.

I'll take a pic if/when they get *all* the BDs displayed.

Your pic looks pretty much like what I saw except the case I saw must be about a foot wider to hold 8 across.

Forgot to mention the BD case situation... they use the normal DVD cases with a full-size blue insert with the Blu-ray logo on top in white then they slide the BD insert in on top of that positioned all the way to the bottom so that the BD logo shows up top.

Same here in Charleston, SC with regards to the BD case.

The BB closest to me started carrying Blu-Rays this week. Very cool.

Wow It is a small world! That is exactly the store I am talking about. I live on 96 ST and 137 AVE. I spoke to the manager today, and she told me the following "I received a letter informing me that the store will be receiving 25 additional Blu-ray a month."

You want to talk even smaller world? I used to live on 96 ST. and 137th as well! Esprit Condos. hahah.

Great to hear the store is getting new stocks of Blu-ray movies. I remember going there on the weekends with my girlfriend and it was a mad house. Always full of people. Also the store that's more west on Kendall Dr. (closer to Krome Ave.) ..packed also. Unfortunantely the Blockbuster here in Playa Del Rey doesn't even carry BD's yet.

Was back in there last night and sure enough they had about 100 of the BDs on a cart in the back. Guy went and got them and rolled them out so I could see what they had. He said they should have them all out on the floor by this weekend.

Another bit of good news is that he said they had already received the Premonition disc and that for the most part they should be getting new releases on release day.

Thumbs up I just joined the BB TotalAccess

I printed my coupon to get the free in-store rental before my movies shipped.

(I was actually thinking: this is only a 2 week trial. I'll cancel it if there's low inventory. )

Well I was browsing through the store and found the Blu-ray section which was the front and back of one display unit. I looked through it and saw maybe 3 or 4 titles I'd like to see which I don't already own. Then I looked over at the New Releases section and saw the Blu-ray logo again. There were 2 full racks of the newest titles on BD. Most had only 1 copy, but it was an excellent selection.

One other thing I noticed was that several titles were already rented out! That's good news. Guess I will be using Blockbuster for by mail and in-store rentals!

2 of the 3 local Blockbuster stores in my area just stocked 2 big shelves of Blu-rays. Neither were part of the 250 target stores. So, they only carry Blu-ray. It's been great so far, and it's fun to see people browsing around inquiring the clerks about Blu-ray.

Just noticed this online...

used to have to click on 'collections' to get to the Blu-ray collection. Now they have Blu-ray there on the *top* list and no sign of HD DVD.

My city has two blockbusters, and neither of them will be carrying blu-ray. I actually live in a very affluent area that has a lot of money, and they won't be carrying them!!!

They changed that a few weeks ago. Everyone here needs to e-mail them and remind them that it's "Blu-ray Disc".
