I never saw Michelle Pfeiffer's selena kyle as being brought back from the dead by the cats, in fact i don't think she ever died from the push out the window, I think Tim Burton imade it obvious that the awnings broke her fall and she was simply knocked out (she passed through quite a few of them thus slowing her down before she hit the ground)

and the cats weren't "bringing her back to life" it was supposed to be symbolic of the old selina Kyle dying and the new catwoman being born, i think thats a point a lot of people miss about batman returns (although that can be said for alot of that movie, which is smarter then it gets credit for)

I know thats a matter of opinion and how you see batman returns, but the fact that is even if you do see the cats bringing her back to life it at least was done in a more symbolic form. Halle Berry's Catwoman literally had a CGI cat walk up onto her chest lean its head toward her mouth and breath into her lungs in slow motion

all that was missing was the baywatch theme playing in the background

Well, um, not quite--
Yes, Warner needed to save face after losing two other Batman V projects (the Joel Schumacher "No, really, I'll be a good boy this time! " version and the Wolfgang Petersen "Superman vs. Batman" that got too expensive)...
So, they announced "What, we've got lots of other Batman projects in pre-development!--Why, we've got....this one, for instance!", and pulled Tim Burton's old post-Batman Returns "Solo spinoff or nothing" memo from 1995 out of the wastebasket.

And yes, on paper, it's supposed to be the "same" as Pfeiffer's Burton-misogynistic allegory of "empowered feminism", but...it'd been through a few script doctors since then--
In fact, you can almost see the Script-Doctor Telephone Game:
Screenwriter 1: "Michelle Pfeiffer is a hardworking secretary who discovers her boss's shady dealings, get pitched out of a window and revived by cats."
Screenwriter 2: "Our heroine is a repressed, persecuted secretary who discovers her boss's plans to embezzle the company, is pitched off a ten story roof, and returns as an avenging hero in a catsuit."
Screenwriter 3: "Our heroine is a wimpy secretary with no life, who discovers her boss's plans to wipe out a city, dies, crosses over, and is granted feline superpowers by the goddess Bast."

(One shudders to think what they would've done with Danny DeVito's Penguin. )

The word on the Internet forums is that this is a reference PQ release and should be purchased. No DNR/EE or missing meows.

The videophiles are saying it's better then Gladiator for showcasing your enormous AV system & a must have if you enjoy reference PQ over story content.

For anyone that has seen the movie (or even for those that haven't and don't care about spoliers) check out this hillarious "Abriged Script" of Catwoman

http://www.the-editing-room.com/catwoman.html

In fact the site has dozens of "abriged scripts" that are really really funny worth a read especially if you didn't like a certain movie

She had nine lives! It's been a while since I've seen that movie (as it's not one I care to watch that much), so I'll leave it at that, BUT I'm pretty sure there were other instances of her having died.

And?

"Catwoman" is basically separate from the Batman mythos... unlike "Batman Returns". The cat could have coughed up a magical hairball in her mouth... and it might be worse, but I don't see how the cat breathing life into her lungs is so terrible?

Yep, I prefer cheesy B-movies to A-list misfires. I bring a different set of expectations to the films and my scale becomes weighted, so to speak. Regardless, I would still give the nod to Catwoman over Roger Corman's Fantastic Four. That's about it though.

Because Cats Lack the neccessary lips and lung power to perform CPR on an adult woman

All joking aside, it actually isn't a seperate mythos from Tim Burton's Batman world it was after all orginally intended as a spin off staring Michelle Pfeifer and while yes the final protect is as far removed from Buton's Style (and original story outline) pay close attention to the part where the mom from Six Feet Under's throws the book of previous 'Catwomen" at halle and the pictures and paper fall on the floor, one of the pictures is of Michelle Pfeiffer from batman returns, meaning this does take place in the same world

I know it's a tiny bit of info probabaly thrown in there just as a homage to the character or an inside joke but if you take the film at face value a fact like that immediatly tells you this is the same universe at batman returns was in

Again, it's been a while since I have seen the movie (hey, I watched it free on HBO once as there was NO WAY I was buying the movie on DVD as a "blind buy"), but I don't remember the cat having lips. I thought it just showed breath coming out of the cat and into Halle's mouth.

I believe there is a reference to "Gotham City" in the film as well.

My point was that the "Catwoman" featured in THIS film is NOT Selena Kyle, and is not intended to be. She's A "Catwoman", just not THE "Catwoman"...

Personally, I would have preferred they had gone with Ashley Judd (who was going to play the part for a while as the spin-off from BR languished in limbo), but shied away from BR's version of "Catwoman" and stuck closer to the comic/animated version.

I stopped reading comics years ago, but it's not unusual for there to be multiple characters with the same name, similar powers, but different origins. There's also instances of characters with the same name, different powers AND different origins.

Well thats one thing we both agree on, i was actually excited about the project when she was rumoured to be attached. At the time i thought Ok Batman and Robin was a mistep but a catwoman movie will bring the batman franchise back to where it belongs

In the end though it really is a shame Michelle Pfeifer never got to star as the character again in a Tim burton style spin off of her own

While the rest of us realized the only reason Berry had been cast in the movie was that her "Die Another Day" 007 solo-spinoff project had just been axed, Warner was talking about a Batman solo-spinoff, and suddenly the two projects...started to get allll jumbled around in the executives' widdwe heads...

Nothing against MP's performance, and I might have liked a Catwoman movie with her in it better than "Batman Returns", BUT I can't say I'm too upset given that I didn't care much for Tim Burton's vision of Catwoman.

Speaking of BAD movies.

Not as bad as "Catwoman", but still...

That being said, a "Jinx" film would probably have been better than this one.

But I thought the number one attraction to own blu-ray is PQ and story/content is irrelevant as long as there's a flawless picture presentation.

Simply put, the movie was a "CAT-astrophe".

I wouldn't have mind it as much if WB had made this movie in the same spirit like the Mummy as far as the Egyptian aspects are concerned. However, it was a disaster when the suits at WB, who must have been sniffing CATnips, promote it as a "Catwoman" movie. This has no connection to the DC character and was stupid when it was promoted as such. Halle Berry is generally a sexy woman but she does look a bit ridiculous in that costume. Sharon Stone is also another beautiful woman but she's also not so good in this movie either. Not much of a villain.

As it stands, I don't have any plans to buy the BD. If you happen to like it then by-all-means, go ahead and get it. I'm not trying to dissuade anyone.

Batman Returns is probabaly the most debated Batman film out there, some absolutley hate it, others absolutley love it

Burton did take alot of liberities (especially with the penguin) but i consider it a great film and in several ways i like it more then batman 89'
