That post was from 2 1/2 years ago, so safe to say there hasn't been any new information regarding the release.

Incorrect.

They exist as Palisades Tartan. http://www.palisadestartan.com/default.asp

This Blu-ray release is a Palisades Tartan release. Tartan went under around 2007 or 2008 and got bought out. What sucks about them going under is that they lost a lot of rights to films. Sinking of Japan was supposed to get released here in the States but got cancelled because the rights reverted back as soon as the bankruptcy was announced. In the UK, they lost rights to Battle Royale, which we got that fine Region Free limited edition set from Arrow.

I would kill for a bittersweet life to get a UK release with both the theatrical and directors cut editions, I dont really want to import the korean version as its just the directors cut version and the extras are not english friendly but im very close to doing so.

Don't bother with the Blu for this, it's terrible. It's either an upscale job or a DNR'd to hell job. It also misses a huge amount of special features from the DVD editions. You can see comparisons here - http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCom...wo-sisters.htm

This is what I wrote on Palisades Tartan's Facebook.

Quote:
Just finished the UK Blu-ray for "A Tale of Two Sisters". I think this goes in the same category of how the older Chinese Jackie Chan or Jet Li film have been handled by their studio owners. They've been handing out SD telecined masters blown up to HD. I think this might be the case here, but I don't think most of the South Korean studios had HD equipment to make HD scans/masters in 2003 when the film was made. Plus, they shot the film on an inferior film format which gives the film a weird horizontal wobble where if this was telecine wobble it would be vertical. The interlacing was rough towards the end. But, in motion, the video is good.

I believe it's both, however, I don't think this was done by Palisades Tartan themselves, more from the South Korean studio. I didn't fully elaborate on Facebook, but, the FOX DVD for Into the Mirror on the Mirrors 2 Blu-ray has atrocious quality. Into the Mirror was made the same year, 2003, as A Tale of Two Sisters. The quality on that DVD honestly made me think that the film was made in the mid to late 80's, not 2003. It was preserved properly and it's only been ten years! This is what I wrote on my Blu-ray review for Mirrors 2 regarding the video quality on Into the Mirror:

Quote:
Even though the film is presented in 480i, Standard Definition, the presentation is awful. You would not think that this film is ten years old. The video presentation makes it look like this movie was made atleast twenty to thirty years ago. Honestly, this felt like a VHS copied to a DVD. Did Fox honestly think this transfer was acceptable from the South Korean studio? 1/5

I recently ordered a copy of the Korean blu-ray and if anyone is interested, I'll be posting a review once I watch it.
